Is it possible to use a pump that was designed as an in-tank unit as an external in-line unit? I know that the in tank pumps are cooled by the fuel, but this will be on a full-drag daytona so it wont see any kind of extended use so I dont think the cooling will be an issue.

If I remember correctly Gus had one mounted on his shock tower for a high boost only aux. fuel system. Although its not recomended it can be done. The question is how long it will last. I'm guessing a while in a drag only car. Is this for an AUX. fuel system? I'm curious as to why you don't want it in the tank.
Thanks
Randy

What I wanted to do is go to a fuel cell in the front end, I had a good deal on a 255lph pump but it was an in-tank pump, I was wondering if I could use it externally or would have to fabricate a bracket to use the pump in the tank. But I ended up finding an external pump for an even better deal along with a fuel cell,so I'm going that route.

Keep in mind that pumps push much better than they pull so that's one reason an intank is prefered. Sometimes hard to find problems stem from home engineering. I'm not flaming your deal
just thinking out loud.
Thanks

I think I'll be fine as long as I mount the pump lower then the level of the fuel, that way it wont have to pull the fuel to it and will only have to push it to the motor like you stated.

For a race only application it would be ok... might overheat on day to day driving.
