i've been doing some reading of some threads and i've read about people running some pretty advanced timing on their engines. I have a G head on a 2.2 and i'm running 14 deg. advance. is there anything really to be gained by advancing it 16, 17, 18 or even 19 degrees?

15° is pretty good & still safe, usually. Make sure everything is in good shape, though.

yeah i just rebuilt the engine so everything should be alright. The only real difference i've noticed with the 2-3 degrees advance is a smoother engine throughout the power curve, especially at idle.
