Hey all - Does anyone have experience with installing the Walbro Hi-Pressure fuel pump in post-1990 cars? What sort of modifications are required? Ron Gregory from Auto Performance Engineering seems to think that the pumps are nearly impossible to install, but FWD Performance says that all is that is needed to install the pumps are a few brass fittings. Anyone know one way or another? Thanks!

Rick Diogo did this on his IROC R/T. I think at first he modified an L body carrier which worked, but wasn't a good as he wanted, so he got a carrier from an older pre-90 turbo car and it worked fine.

Awesome, thanks - have any idea how the carrier would have to be attached to the tank? Any welding involved?

OK, I'm not sure where that came from. You may need some brass fittings to install a Fuel Pressure regulator, but not a fuel pump. The fuel pumps we sell come with an install kit. You can put them in a later model car but it will take either some creative fabrication to the old fuel pump holder assembly, which may turn out to be time consuming, or a simplier solution seems to me using a hanger assembly from an 89 turbo car, and mounting your walbro to that hanger and dumping the 90-up modular hanger set-up.
Later,
Cindy

Thanks for the tip! The info I got about the brass fittings came to me secondhand, someone telling me the experience of someone they know - I suppose I shouldn't have trusted it, then! The mechanic of the person in question took one look at the pump and told the person to return it. Perhaps they jumped the gun, then. Sorry to publicize mistaken info!

Take a good look at a Walbro 255lph HIGH PRESSURE pump for a Neon.

Ron sells those too.

Here's my Neon pump upgrade/mod webpage with lots of pics:

If it works, be sure to let me know. It will be handy to know for future reference on my 94 Acclaim....

so here is my question about it. i have 2 lines that go to the fuel pump unit. i would assume 1 to send fuel, and 1 for return line. i just picked up a pump assembly from an 89 turbo daytona. it has 1 fuel line on it. what do i do with the other line? or do i have to go out and buy another one?
