ok, so what do guys run to emulate?

is the ostrich emulator compatible? which chip should I emulate?

but first things first.

Which chip do i need, the 27c64? i have 2732a and 27sf512.

should i start by just getting an ecu socketed?

Im only looking to stretch fuel mileage in an 86 lebaron conv. (at least for now)

oh,

Do guys swap t2 blow through setups into these things??

I would way love to just intercool the hell outta this thing... our shop kinda has some nasty intercooler cryo devices, but a suck through system wouldnt respond well, right?

i would way rather deal with something more conventional if i was looking for significant performance enhancement.

I've heard of others using ostrich. Never used it myself though, just have a couple dozen 27sf512 lying around and a hole in my logic module above the prom socket. Can't see why the ostrich wouldn't work, the earlier ecus are the most basic of prom setups.

I personally use 27sf512, cheap, plentiful, and have never let me down. You just need to know the offset, or double/quad/8x the cal on the chip if you're lazy. Even the socketing isn't that hard, if you're mildly skilled with a soldering iron.

My suggestion would be to pick up a later style intake and sensors and convert to 87 T2 electronics. It's not that hard to do, I believe that there's 2 or 3 sites around detailing the swap. The later setup makes things a good deal easier as far as calibrations go, too. You won't be limited to the vendors or MP cals. Not that either of those are bad at all, I ran an 85 cal from FWD for a year or so and it was quite nice. It's just that there's much more custom stuff available for 87. There are relocatable source packages available for the 87 t2 LM to do things like anti-lag, 2 step limiter, switchable boost and more.

whats this with the t1 cal thing?

what will i be able to adjust? Are timing and fuel adjustment limited in the early deals?

would i be better off just finding a 2.5l t2 motor and attempting a swap?

are they available generally?

There are no 2.5 t2 engines all t2s are 2.2 .2.5 turbos are t1s,but can be upgraded to t2 status.

More things than you'd want to do know. Download the program and download the calibration and find out.

We sure do. 87 New Yorker is my picture gallery for my 87 T1 suckthrough new yorker. I converted it to blowthrough so fast I didn't even take a picture of the T1 setup As you scroll down you can see the new 89 T2 shortblock with forged pistons going in and then the TU 3" exhaust system.

converting it to blowthrough and 87 electronics. Turning the overboost function off and setting the computer controlled boost to 14.5psi made the car run 14.3. I need to do some tranny upgrades before it goes back out to the track when it opens. Should be interesting with the big exhaust, and more boost.

Luckily, there are some really smart and generous people doing dev work on the ecus.

I haven't looked at the early t1 (85/86) calibrations in a while but what you can adjust may be limited as there isn't the greatest amount support for them. What you could do is get a copy of dcal from the yahoo group and look around the files section. There should be some stuff there you can use.

Stepping up to the 87 electronics is probably the best bet though, there's tons more support and much more that can be changed.

The speed distance sensor?? It's on the output housing on the right side axle of the transmission. You've got to get it from under the car.

thanks. But back to it.

Whats about these "t1 cals" Will i be stuck using factory calibrations, or will i be able to modify the fueling boost and timing?

Im looking to strech efficiency as much as possible, so if the t1 options are limited i may just start preparing to swap ecus.

That's a problem. It's so stealthy I find it hard to get a race. I pretty much have to pull up and ask if they want to race But it does make it nice when cops are around.

I just looked at the .tbl files on dcal for 85 and 86. The 85 tbl appears to have only the most basic of the needed definitions for spark, boost, and fuel adjustment. The 86 is even more sparse, I don't see any tables being described for fuel. With one of the custom 87 cals floating around you'd have all the tables and constants, not to mention being able to use some of the stuff I mentioned above. All of which sittn86 must have glossed over before the previous ultra-informative post, lol.
