Megasquirt-II-Extra to be exact. I measured out the vanes in the distributor, came up with the angles. And put them into the source code. Recompiled it, and it works. Thanks to that little window on one of the vanes, we'll be able to do wasted spark OR EVEN Coil On Plug! Woot! Of course, you can stick with the single coil and use the good old distributor setup too. I plan to pick up a coilpack off a Neon at the junkyard in the next couple of days and build some kind of mount for it in my engine bay. I'll be running wasted spark.
So far, all I've done is fire the engine up on the SBEC with the MS powered up and tapped into one of the HEP signals (only need one for the MS). With MegaTune running on my laptop, I get a nice smooth and steady RPM readout. And the two coil output LED's alternate nicely.
Gotta love open source.. And the fact that MSII is written in C.. Assembly blows.

Awesome work! I looked at it not long ago, but gave up when I saw how undocumented/unreadable the MS-II code is. Guess I should have checked out the extra stuff...

Out of curiosity, what did you get for angles? 90 degree high/low with a 30 degree window 30 degrees from the start of the pulse?

Edit: Wow, the extra wheel decoder is pretty cool... Any possibility of using the second HEP signal for faster starts? Here's a link to an Excel file of HEP and 2.4 signals and degrees: www.moyerautomotive.com/Documents/Timing.xls The first TDC going left to right is #2.

I came up with 35.9 degrees for the vanes, 90 degrees from leading edge to leading edge, the one with the window was 10.3degrees of vane on each side of the window, 15.3degree window.. Wish I had seen the above document sooner, this could have been added months ago..
Not sure about the second HEP pickup giving it faster starts, I don't think that's how the wheel decoder in MSII-Extra works..
Here's how I came up with the angles..

I have some simple code for a simulator for a Mega163 (similar to Mega32) if anyone needs it. It is 16 bit timer based. There is a single parameter that is changed for RPM. I often use a loop and go from 200 RPM for starting to 7,000.

I am presently running a 2.2 turbo with my EMS using a TBI HEP,and Turbo vane wheel. I now have 3D ignition table, and am working on 3D wideband O2 capability.

I was talking in crank degrees, but you're right. Rounding to nice degrees, I get 108 low 72 high for a "normal" pulse, 108 low, 20 high, 32 low, 20 high for a window pulse. You'd get faster starts because MS would know which cylinder to fire sooner. As it is, you need to get to the window tooth before it can fire a coilpack, because it doesn't know what cylinder to fire until it gets that unique tooth. I don't know if you can call the other sensor a cam input and somehow synch off of that.

Kevin, my '90 SBEC is flashable...

I'll just be happy to have it working at all. It's going to be a long shot better than not having it. Didn't have a chance to make it to the JY to get a coil pack today. Really chomping at the bit to give this puppy a whirl.

I have found that cranking speed is about 210 RPM, it takes about 0.6 seconds for 2 crank revolutions. Starting is sometimes quicker, depending on the window tab location. I use a non-window tab to compare with the window tab for sync determination.

I set initial timer capture values for the 210 RPM counts, with hopes that if it hit the sync tab first, it would ready. Using the scope, still need 2 revolutions of crank.

If I get off my butt today, I might actually try to start the van on the MS. I figured out how I want to mount the coil pack, roughly.
Pictures here
What I'm thinking is some kind of bracket that gets a couple of the valve cover bolts, then has a plate that comes up right where I have the coil pack sitting right now, so the coil pack can bolt to it. Make sense? I think it can all be done with sheetmetal.
I know the stock TD spark map was floating around somewhere a couple years ago.. Anyone got it handy?
