holy cow!!! i read most of this thread and never realized my cold start problem was from the stage 5 cal!!!. i still like the calibration though. i need to hit the dyno and get some numbers for cindy, maybe go with a custom stage 5!

I have the Stage 1 Cal and I don't have any cold start issues at all. I have upgraded everything except the turbo and I am getting some pretty good power. It's a good calibration. I'm looking to maybe get nitrous for the boost lag.

I wish I was as luck as most of you. I never had any luck with my stage 5 cal for a 2.5 g-head. High EGT's 1600+ cruising even with 17 degrees of timing at the distribuor, a very noticible hesitation going into boost and what a nightmare starting cold. After 2 different chips and waiting for a 3rd which I have yet to receive, I went on e-bay bought a eeprom burner, a few 27SF512 eeproms from mouser, a moates.net chip extender (highly recommended, no need to remove computer to swap chips) and I downloaded D-cal. I started with a 2.5 g-head cal and fine tuned it to my vehicle with a wideband. The initial cal was a little radical so I somewhat de-tuned it. The cold start in most cases can be fixed by fine tunning the fuel coolant temp start table. My cal also has the CEL knock mod ( the check engine light lights if knock is detected ) and switchable boost control. My EGT's are now within reason, no hesitations accelerating, and it will start the first time every time and the exhaust doesnt look like a diesel!

Other than this I have spent several thousand $$ and no complaints with FWD P all of my parts have been delivered within resonable times

Cruising EGT's will ALWAYS be higher than your WOT EGT's due to ignition timing under constant light loads.

As for the other issues...dunno. Could have been any number of issues or a mix a a few.

That I know, but cruising down the highway I could easially hit 1700 degrees. Which is not right. WOT would also be 1700 and climbing with only 7PSI. The problem with the cal is that the 2.5 G-head requires a ton more timing than a swirl. The FWD cal I have doesnt even have close to the amount of timing required for it to run with resonable EGT's and power. A g-headed 2.5 is a complete DOG without the right cal. Currently my WOT runs are around 1300 with 10 psi and cruising ranges from 1300 - 1500. Nothing has changed except for the calibration.

The two things that I am unhappy about is that I paid $180 + shipping for a socketed SMEC that I could have done myself for about $2 and I never received the cal revision I was told was in the mail probabily sometime back in March or April.

Basically what I can say about the cals is that if you have a stock configuration, their cals appear to run great, If you have something a little different like a G-headed 2.5 you will probabily have to tune it yourself.

I'm still running into some issues with my FWD Stage 5 2.4 DOHC cal. I've got the car running tons better than it was. I did the same thing as Mario03SRT as far as running static fuel pressure. I just capped off the vacuum line to my 1:1 AFPR and started tuning. Now, the car has more fuel pressure at idle which helped A LOT. Now the car starts every time. Once in a while, you'll need to feather the gas for about 10 seconds to keep it running, but after that, it's perfect. Warm starts are basically the same as cold now, which is good. Warm starts before were near impossible, making it a huge pain in the ass to go to the store or to fill up the gas tank.

However, I'm still running too rich in boost. I've got my fuel pressure down to 45psi static and it's still too rich. I only have a narrowband gauge in it right now, but my EGTs have never gone over 1450. I made some track passes last weekend and they never went over 1300. I'm running about 17-18psi on a 2.4L with 577cc (SRT Stage 1) injectors. My next step is to switch in the 527cc SRT Stage 0 injectors and see what fuel pressure works good for the car.

Turbo84voyager, I'm in the complete opposite boat as you for timing. The 2.4 needs even less timing than a fastburn 8-valve. They already did that in the calibration since it was known it would be going into a 2.4-swapped car. I set my base timing at 12 degrees when I first got the car running and I haven't touched it since.
