i have a FWD stage 3 computer in my car now.

cold start up, it will idle high like its supposed to, then it drops off and will rev up, almost stall, rev up, almost stall.... and keep doing that for about a minute or 2 then it settles in the middle to a regular idle. also i havent been able to find out why when im cruising, if im keeping a steady pace and im under 2000 rpm, it will literally shut off and pop start again. it jolts you in your seat and shakes the whole car. its literally like holding your throttle in one spot, turning your key off and back on real quick.

now idk if this is something to do with the FWD computer or if im stuck with more headaches trying to find whats causing both of these problems.

if it is the computer, what are other good places to get a cal from?

thanks
nick

I just don't understand why you cant mention other vendors we are limited to them to begin with....

As for the cal I agree 100% with speeduphoria. Go on ebay buy a eeprom burner. I think I paid $30 for mine, Mouser has good cheap SF512 chips and download D-cal or CHEM There are a bunch of good cals availiable to start with. I highly recommend getting a wideband though. My current cal ( using D-cal) is a 40+ 3 bar cal and driveability wise (starting, idle, cruising) it is just as good as a bone stock car with a factory cal. You can do the same with yours. It just takes time.

I dont believe mine had a name. I believe I paid about $25 for it. I forgot to add if you can get one with the cable get it. Mine didnt have the cable. The cable is like a printer extender cable, but the extender cables are male on both sides and the burner is male so I went to radio shack and picked up a gender changer. Your compuer must also be old enough to have a printer port. You also need a USB cable to power the burner. After you do this head over to Mouser's web site and pick up a few SST SF512 eeprom chips. These are electronically eraseable. Get a few because I had a few that would not reprogram after a few erases. I never had one go bad in the car yet though. It could be the cheap burner not erasing them completely but since they are only about $1.50 ea I dont care. If you really want to make it easy moates.net has a great eprom extender. You need the extender and ribon cable. This way you won't need to remove the computer to swap chips. I ran my ribon cable out by the small plug on my SMEC and as for the extender chip board I picked up a project box from radio shack and cut a hole to fit the ribon cable through. I couldnt find a box that the board will mount in so mine is just laying in the box. It is snug and does not move. To be safe I have the board in a plastic bag as well to make sure the weather never gets to board.
