light emitting diodes work completely different from light bulbs. LED's dont have a filament inside that will burn out, they are illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material. they have very little resistance and work with small amounts of current. thats why they require other circuits to step down the voltage and reduce current. there is a benefit to led's they dont ged hot like light bulbs and they will last anywhere between 10 and 15 years before burning out.
