I'm having problems with my 87 Daytona T1 converted to 89 blow through with no intercooler.

First of all, the power sucks. It might as well be a TBI motor, because it sure doesn't act like a turbo should!

After running the car about 20 miles today, I had a problem where it wouldn't rev any higher than about 3000 rpm. I could put my foot way down on the gas, and the tach would just bounce from 2000 to 3000 about every 2 seconds.

So since it had 5 gallons of gas in it, my Dad had the idea to add 2 cans of PB Blaster solvent to the fuel tank. So we did. Then I set the idle at 1500, put a fan in front of the car, shifted it into Neutral, and went inside to watch the NASCAR race for an hour while it ran the fuel through. It sucked down a few gallons.

I took it out for a drive afterwards. It still won't idle, and I didn't really try to test the upper rpm limit.

Before the 1 hour run, I'd checked the spark plugs, and all were rich, especially #1 and 2. I have 2.5 injectors on 1 and 2, and 2.2 injectors on 3 and 4, as was sugested here.

Fault codes are 12,13,15,24,34. 24 is the TPS sensor. It wasn't like that earlier today.

If this thing doesn't get fixed soon, this POS is getting sold! My old 1970's Mopars with carburetors never gave me any of this trouble!

Should have bought that 5 speed TBI 89 Omni when I had the chance.

By any chance, was your check engine light on during your test drive? Sounds like the computer is in limp-in mode.

It sucked down a few gallons by idling an hour?? Holy crap, that's some major gas usage.

Take out those 2.5 injectors and put the 2.2 injectors back in.

You've got a list of codes. Go through it, and check the components pointed to by the fault code description.

You can't expect the car to run right when there's a bucketload of stuff wrong.

The POWER LOSS light has been on intermittently. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't.

The first one on the list (12) is insignificant, and is related to the battery having been unhooked recently.

Code 13 - The MAP sensor is unhooked because when that 4 hose into one vaccum line is plugged into the intake, the car idles at about 2000 rpm. I'm sure that's not helping me.

Code 15 - Speed sensor. Could be a problem. The speedometer reads about 1/3 of actual speed. When I'm going 60-70 it says 25. Odometer and in-dash 12 button thing goes along with it.

Code 24 - TPS sensor. That one started today, right about the time it quit idling nice.

Code 34 - It says speed control. I'm guessing that's the cruise control, which isn't even in the engine bay right now.

I pulled the spark plugs today, and they were pretty black. Rich. Especially #'s 1 and 2 with the 2.5 injectors.

Fix 13, and you'll be well on your way to a better running car.

15 can cause stalling when coming to a stop.

24 will cause lots of problems. Hesitation, stalling etc.

34 is indeed your cc.

On another note.. I've read most of your posts regarding your build-up. You need to expect problems when you don't do the EXACT things necessary for the conversion.

Re-post exactly what you did and we'll help from there...

(BTW, I wouldn't recommend PB BLASTER in the tank to anyone... Chevron Techron is an excellent injector cleaner)

I reconnected the MAP hose today, and picked up about 50 horsepower! I guess I just had to have some other things right before the MAP could do its job. Wound it over 4000 and near 5000 a few times today.

But my old reliable 1971 Valiant with a mildly built 165 HP 225 /6 will still beat this 87 Daytona to 100 mph, and/or in the 1/4 mile. My Valiant ran 16.5's at 84.

Still getting codes 13, 15, 24, 34, 52, 55(end). But the car's running better.

Aside from the TPS quitting on me and the car refusing to idle at all, my biggest current headache is a temp gauge that can't stay still for more than 30 seconds and wanders fron 1/4 to 1/2 almost constantly. I just put a post in the General section on that.
