My 87 Daytona (built March 1987) has some kind of electronic thing in the transmission where a good, old fashioned, and RELIABLE speedometer cable used to go. My speedometer doesn't work very much. If I'm going 70, it MIGHT read 20-25, and it takes the odometer and 12 button dash trip computer along with it.

What drives the speedometer / odometer? A couple electric motors?

At any rate, it's reading way low, barely at all. Are the problems usually in the transmission mounted sensor part? If so a junkyard trip will fix it. Are all 87-up units identical? I know of a few 87-89 cars and minivans to pull one off of.

This Daytona came with cruise control, but I didn't put it back in. Just plugged the vaccum line and left the wires unhooked.

They are all the same... No motors are involved... simple electronic guage for the speedo.

If you do get a JY part, you will need to be sure to cap off the speedo cable input area if it is not allready.

Don't waste your time- They have such a high failure rate with age that your better off just going to the dealer and popping for anew one.
