Installing a new walbro in a 92 daytona

I have a 92 Daytona Iroc Shelby w/ the 2.5 TI. I bought a Walbro 255 to install. I pulled the pump out and it is in a big container, the same size as the hole in the tank. The problem is the connectors on the top of the walbro are not the same as the original. I can make it work, but I can not line up the pump to the hole in the bottom of the container, where it sucks the fuel from the tank. Has anyone else tried this. The older cars where alot simpler because they didn't have this housing. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

John

I know Rick Diogo had to do this for his Daytona R/T, and there was quite a bit of chat on the SDML about making it all work.
I seem to remember a comment about using part(s) from an 89 Daytona to make it work.

Welcome to the club John. This is a real PITA. My son & I made up a pump that works using a Walbro 255 for his 93 Daytona 2.5 Turbo. You need to get a fuel pump from a 89 TI car (and make sure that you get a few inches of the electrical lead and the connector). Then use it for the hanger and mix and match parts from both to come up with a workable pump. I have some pics of the 89 pump on my site (prior to any modifications). I think my son has some more pics of how we cobbled it together. One of the big problems was to maintain the correct length so it would still reach the bottom of the tank. The end result worked but, I was glad that it wasn't a part that would be visible for show.
I'll check with my son and see if he has any more pics. If he does, I will get them uploaded to my site and let you know.

I put a walbro in my '90 and it was no big deal ( of course this is from a guy that thinks a neon head hybrid is no big deal). I soldered some terminals together for the electrical connections, and I somehow got the pump to fit into the original hanger.

Sorry I can't remember to many details but it has been about 4 years now.

How the heck can we be assured the pump won't short and blow us up from a spark or heat? Seems like such a volatile place for a dc motor. Some more info would be nice on the install.

Thanks guys

I think I'll grab the pump housing from my 89 parts car, that will make it easier.

Later John

'91 and later requires creativity. '90 and earlier drop right in with the standard installation kit.

Not exactly. The 90 is an oddball. They are different from the 89 and earlier as well as being different from the 91 and up. This goes for a lot of things: the brakes, the control arms, the fuel tank, heck even the center console is different in the 90.
