Hope this is the right forum to post this. I'm new to TD's and need to fix a leaking #2 injector that is dripping fuel on my exhaust. What is the sequence of removing and re-install of the injectors? Is O-ring replacementment the fix? It leaks alot on cold start but tapers off with engine warmup. Thanks for any instructions!

easy as pie. there are two 10 mm bolts that hold the fuel rail in. you may want to bleed the schrader valve(looks like a tire stem valve in the middle of the fuel rail). the whole set of seals is like 8 bucks, so i'd do all of them while you have it off. there is a seal on either end of each injector, so that's eight seals. simply pull the rail off the manifold, then pull the injectors out of the rail one at a time, replace seals, and replace injector. should take about 12 minutes. lol.

macncheese,
Thanks for the response! Are the o-rings available at any parts store? And it appears there is some sort of sealer that was used on mine. It's blue. Where the injector goes in the head? Thanks.

Yeah, they're available from parts stores. Be sure to put some kind of lube on the o-rings when you install them so they can slip into the fuel rail and manifold easier. I prefer just a thin coating, just enough so you can see it's there without seeing the color of the lube.

motor oil is recomended, and works well for lubing the o-rings.

There seems to have been something done before to the injectors. On all four injectors it appears that someone has used blue Permatex and then black RTV looking stuff. There is a definate "ring" of blue and then a "ring" of black around every injector where it goes into the head! Like someone got carried away and tried to stop a leak.Theleak appears to be on the lower o-ring on #2 injector. Just wondered if there is a difference between the upper and lower o-rings? The nearest parts counter is an Advance Auto Partsl and they'll probably sell me the wrong ones!. At least it's getting up to 50 tomorrow! Thanks all and I'll post my results. Next project is my no start 1991 TBI Shadow!

I bought a set of O rings for the injectors at Advance, and they were the right ones. Getting the injectors into and out of the fuel rail by hand is tricky, they fit TIGHT! Make sure you take off the retaining clips before trying to pull the injector out.

After further inspection I decided I would swap out the leaking #2 injector along with the whole fuel rail. Have a donor head/Turbo/manifolds that I can cannabalize. Apparently someone pror to me used Blue Permatex and Black RtV in an attempt to stop the injector(s) from leaking. So after cleaning off the old sealer I re-o-ringed the donor rail/injectors and popped them in. Of course I broke a vac-line from the solinoid to the W-gate can. Is this going to affect the drivability until I can find a "Y" plastic fitting? Seems to run fine. I don't have a boost gauge in the car (89 Lebaron) so I don't know if it is affecting the wastegate. But I do know it is much nicer without the noxious fuel fumes in the car!!!! Thanks all.

yes, it will DEFINATELY affect the driveablility of the car. vac/boost signal to the wastegate is what contols the boost levels. no boost to wastegate = constant spool. it should actually feel pretty quick. on the downside, boost too high, and the stock fuel system can't handle, then you melt a piston. check my sig. upside, the car will USUALLY cut out right before 15 psi, which is where this usually happens. however, it is very violent and i don't recommend it. see if you can kidnap another vac line, maybe from the egr or something.

I found a "Y" fitting and some small diameter hose and th line isfixed. As far as overboost, I don't ever floor the car and rarely ever even go on the hwy so not much chance of me frying a piston!! Thanks for the headsup! :big grin:
