3. Try to start it, then run codes again. DID IT

11 should now be gone. If it's still there, your HEP isn't picking up a signal (either bad HEP/wiring, or the dist doesn't turn). DID IT

If 11 does go away, and there's no code 54 popping up, your HEP works allright. Bad power module could be the problem.
11 IS GONE AND NO CODE 54

OK HERE IS SOMEMORE INFO

i've got no spark from the coil

i get a pulse(flash) on the neg side of the coil when cranking (which means my brand new HEP is working correct?)

grounded the neg side of coil and it made a spark, bad ecu?

fuel pump and injectors work fine i checked them,

when i turn the key to the (on position without turning it 3 times it goes into code check all by itself.

i also hooked up a scan tool (OTC4000e) to the computer and it keeps saying NO DATA and for some reason the OTC4000e says that in an 89 shelby it comes with a 2.5 turbo, (which is wrong)

so im thinking it hassssssss to be a bad ecu, the ecu is out of the car now and i am trying to find a computer, 187$ from napa, reman, i need to find something cheaper, any ideas of where to get one cheap?

Check the auto shut down relay on the drivers fender. I've seen these go and they will produce a no start situation. I can barley even find one at the wrecker which also tells you it is a common problem. Jump pins 87 and 30 and try starting it. I know it will stop the signal going to the coil but I'm not sure about the fuel pump. Anyway I figure it would be worth a try.

what year is your car, and what engine/transmission do you have???
2.5 turbo`s were available in 89 daytonas.
its not uncommon for 88-89-up TD`s to show codes by just turning the key on once...my 89 does.

some scan tools will only read codes, but not data on TD`s.
on my scan tool, my 87 wont show data, but my 89 will.

check for loose electrical connections, and bad grounds. check the ASD relay, and all the fusible links. if you are sure the injectors are working, then you may have a bad coil driver in the power module/computer...depending on the year.

you could check your local junkyards for one, or make a post in the wanted section on here....

Yes, sounds like the HEP is working properly. Did you measure between the + and - terminals on the coil, or did you get + from elsewhere? Assuming you were using a testlight?

grounded the neg side of coil and it made a spark, bad ecu?
What about the + side, did you have that connected to a + source? The ASD relay will only power the + side of the coil if the engine is turning. If you didn't jump the + side and weren't cranking the engine when doing this test, there shouldn't have been a spark.

fuel pump and injectors work fine i checked them
Good.

Sounds like it might be the ECU, yes. .Junkyard or the parts wanted section here are good places to get 'em. Should be able to get one for well under $50, assuming someone has one for sale.
