ok i pulled over in a mall parking lot to talk to a friend, had just the radio on(not loud at all) key was not on the (on) position it was turned backwards. 25 mins go by, i go to start the car didnt start. it cranks but doesnt turn over, its not a dead battery. i towed it to my garage, i replaced the coil, and the pick up coil. the plugs, wires, and distrubuter are all brand new. not getting spark. could this be a computer problem? its only really 3 main things that run the ingition, coil, distributer, and computer, i replaced everything but the computer, so im thinking its that, but i have no idea. and i dont know how it could have fried just sitting there. please help, give me some ideas, i work tomorrow morning and i wont have a way there unless i fix it tonight.
thanks

Did you notice if you heard the fuel pump turn on when you turn on the ignition but don't crank it over? This happened to me last summer when my fuel pump quit.

1. Disconnect battery for a bit, then reconnect.

2. Check codes. Should get code 11 (and 12 and maybe more, but only 11 is of interest right now).

3. Try to start it, then run codes again.

11 should now be gone. If it's still there, your HEP isn't picking up a signal (either bad HEP/wiring, or the dist doesn't turn).

If 11 does go away, and there's no code 54 popping up, your HEP works allright. Bad power module could be the problem.

see the car was running fine, i just parked it and turned the key backwards and listened to music at a low low volume and talked to a friend for 20 mins, get in the car to start it and it wouldnt start, its wierd and i dont know what else to try, i replaced the coil, and the pickup coil.... the distributor, wires, plugs, cap, and rotor are all brand new. i thought there could only be 3 things wrong right. either the coil, or pickup coil, or power module, i have no idea what else to try but whatever i try or do i have to do it fast, my time is running out

if da beaver owfers you a fish, you TAKE da FISH!!!
here's the deal. per is so good with these things, sometimes he appears psychic to me. as i get better, i can draw the line from a to b to c.
you told us that you have no spark. didn't tell us how you checked, but you told us. per knows that it is QUITE common for the HEP to get mad for no apparent reason. here's point b.....if the computer doesn't get a signal from the HEP, it kills the spark AND the fuel to keep from making a BUNCH of really bad noises. resetting the computer by unplugging the battery will make sure that ONLY the codes affecting the computer RIGHT NOW will show up, and not mislead you. it might be a good idea to MAKE SURE you aren't getting spark by actually taking a plug out and grounding it on the engine block and turning the car over (which i take to mean turning the key and you can hear the car rurnh rurnh rurhn rurhn but no vrooooooommm) you should get a fat blue spark. ALSO check for fuel pressure. yes you should own a gauge by now, if not, borrow one and slap it on the schrader valve at the fuel rail. you should get somewhere between 45 and 55 while turning over. if you have fuel and spark, check your timing. i won't go into that, since you don't think you have any spark, but if you need, just search timing and user macncheese. you should find about 8 posts or so, and any of them will do. and from now on, listen to per.

Follow the instructions Per provided above and report back with what you find. Replacing a bunch of parts is not the way to fix things, typically that will only open the door for more problems. Take the time to troubleshoot and identify the problem first.

on your original post you said you had no spark. now you say that you do. you say that you have fuel pressure. something dosen't sound right. in a motor or on the ground AIR,FUEL,SPARK=
fire. did you check out all your grounds mainly the one on your intake. check fuel injector harness plugs. do you hear your injectors open when you turn the key? you can have pressue in the lines and still not get fuel past the injectors. take off the upper hose to the throttle body and shoot something flamable in it. starting fluid perfered! wd40if you have too. carb choke cleaner and if really in a jam i have gone to the extreame with my duster and started it with bug and tar remover. yes bug and tar remover. read the back it contains kero. dillstates if it does not fire you have a spark issue. if it fires and dies you have a fuel pump issue.
