I am trying to gather the parts to build a 2.5 NA stationary engine on LPG for an irrigation pump. I have sourced an engine and RWD bellhousing. I want to run electronic ignition.

I read somewhere that the distributor from a 1979 omni 1.7L can be used to work with the 2.2/2.5. Is this correct? If so are there any mods required?

I found the writeup on the VW points distributor but I REALLY don't want to run points on this engine.

Thx-Ace

Shoot, if it's a stationary engine, I'd imagine it runs at a static RPM. Therefore, I'd just wire the stock HEP into an electronic ignition module. Lock the advance at whatever works well for you.

So the distributor will fit? There is one for sale in the classified section but I want to make sure I can get it to work before I buy it...

I also have the std distributor available.

Thx-Ace

Una is suggesting you use the "standard" distributor - the original 2.5 dizzy

but you will have to add an 'electronic ignition control module' of some sort..
you could go aftermarket, or adapt an OEM piece for this

more difficult to install, but it will eliminate the points :)
