Be aware that the CTS has a duel resistor so voltage will decrease as the engine warms and then it will increase again as the second resistor kicks in.

yes, any "-" source will work

I'm with NAJ, yur low vacuum idle is the primary culprit for the rich running...

and the CTS is likely contributing since I'm guessing the ECM will ignore the faulty CTS signal and default to "cold/safe rich"

Ok, i am probing the cts right now at the LM...fan kicked on at0.68 volts which is way below any values on the charts.

Why not backprobe the CTS connector?

Also, 84 electronics are different than 85-up so it is possible the 84 CTS has a different voltage output.
If you have low vacuum that needs to be repaired first.

I probed at the LM and the sensor. Same readings, all under 0.8v
Where do i find the 84 specific values?
i am hoping the low vacuum is being caused by a sensor or injector issue...I have been using propane to searchfor vac leaks, and have found nothing yet.
Edit: Looks like this particular engine uses ohms for cts operation...more like the GM and Ford systems I am use to.
But it makes me wonder how i was getiing 5.5v when I started testing, and it all went out the window when both wires were hooked up.

The sensor values I gave you were from a Chrysler Training Manual and from my 1990 Daytona VNT and my Son's 94 Sundance Duster 3.0L.
Without seeing a known good 84 I would have no idea what the actual CTS voltage should be.
It does not use ohms to transmit engine temp data to the controller. they only use ohms for diagnosing the circuit.
