Hi fellow Td'ers..

i was reading that the "stage" cals have an increased rev limiter. Im would like to know what the new rev limit is with these cals. Is it much beyond 6k?

thanks

The stock rev limit I believe is about 6500. I know with Mopar Performance calibrations the rev limit is upped to 7200.

Actually, the 2.5's had a 6200 RPM limit while the 2.2's had a 6650 cut out, and the T3's were set to 6720. I haven't seen any MP computers that had a raised RPM limit yet.

So now im confused.. my tach reads 6K rpm.. and many have mentioned that they shift at 5500 and no more so as not to "hurt" the motor.. if the factory rating is 6500 and fuel at 6650, am i then infact "hurting" a TII shifting at 6k?

In other words, is my tach "lying" to me?

Im amazed these motors can spin to 7200.. right out of the box stock?
i mean with their now 40 year old head design and somewhat heavy cranks.. wow.. new found respect indeed

My other question is, I have an '88 H body Shelby, are MP Smec modules still avaliable for the TII? i looked at the mopar cataloge, and the only thing i found was one for the '87 GLHS.. and all the TI's in both 2.2 and 2.5 flavors.. i would like to get a MP computer to keep my engine bay as stock looking as possible.. but would like a little more oomph without having to play with diodes and graingers..

would a MP computer work well with a 2.5-3" cat-back exhaust?

Thanks for your help
Bernard

No, Not because of "not wanting to hurt the motor". Folks shift there because the car is QUICKER by using the powerband. You spin it that high and you slow down. Better to shift.

Very few folks have their cars worked to the point shifting at or slightly above 6k is beneficial.

I have revved my stock common block 2.2 to 8k once.
Missed a powershift at full boost, the computer didn't have the time to cut the ignition lol !

I know people with traction issues that pound rev-limiter @7200 on the highway in like 4th gear starting at 60mph then proceeding to walks across 2 lanes smoking the tires off it

Ken, thank you for your reply, makes sense, however, if its not beneficial to shift much past 5500, then why didnt Ma Mopar just cut the fuel at 6? why did they have it run to 6650 if there is nothing to gain? -Im not challanging you, just curious.

Why even a 500rpm+ increase with aftermarket computers? Is it their for *potential*?

thanks
bernard

The only time power is made up top is with a completely worked over top end. Home port jobs won't do it.

Take a look some dyno plots (do a search). There are some good ones on the board that really show how the better set-up cars act. There are also some fairly stock ones.

Smoking the tires at 7200 Ahh have to see it. I could light them up at 70-75 and it was OVER when the rpm climbed above 5600 or so.
