Hi
i'm just wondering if it will help fuel pressure much if i put in a 190lph pump in my SC WITHOUT taking out the external pump or plumbing new fuel lines to the engine bay. I really just want a little more pressure than stock because im running a little higher psi, but i don't want to take out the external pump or put in new lines and im wondering if adding this pump will do the trick. Like i said, i won't be taking out the external pump or running new fuel lines. Can i get more pressure from this pump if i keep everything the way it is now and just add the 190lph pump? Or do i NEED to take out the external pump and plumb new lines?

anyone out there help me at all
thanks, Justin

pressure will remain the same because it is not determined by the pump but the fuel pressure regulator.

You do need to take out the external pump. Don't worry, it's easier to do than to install the 190l/hr pump in the tank(which you still need to do). Stock, the feed line went from the in-tank pump to the high pressure pump, to the fuel filter, then to the hardline. It's all rubber hose from the tank to the hardline on the framerail. What you will have for fuel line after you install the 190l/hr pump is: tank, fuel filter, hardline.

Buy 4ft of high pressure fuel injection hose in 5/16" i.d. and also 4 ft of 1/4" high pressure fuel injection hose. That will cover replacing all the hoses near the tank and should get you by with the hoses in the engine compartment. Double check the hoses you get from the parts guy to make sure they say high pressure F.I. fuel hose on them. Sometimes they have thier heads in the sand and give you regular fuel line which will blow out in short order, possibly burning your car down. Also be sure to get the fuel injection-style hose clamps. They are not your common hose clamps. Better clamping and they will not cut into the hose like traditional clamps would. Yeah you'll spend $20-25 at the parts store getting the hoses and clamps but it's money well spent. That is the safest and best way to do this.

Don't worry about the pressure rising. There is no reason for it to do that. the regulator controls the pressure. Supercrackerbox has a 225l/hr pump in his bone stock '86 Daytona. Fuel pressure stayed the same.

ok thanks
im just wondering if it will be easier on the in tank pump if i get a 190lph pump, instead of keeping the stock one in there
but i will see how it goes i suppose and decide what i want to do
thanks alot for the help

more precisely, what i am trying to get at, is that, with a 190lph pump in there instead of the stock one, would i be able to get more gas flow regardless of the FPR? like i were to just pump it in a can, would the 190 pump more than stock with the external one there, or will it be about the same because the external pump is there

see, i have an AFPR, but don't want to up the pressure too much on the stock pump and be really working it, so i would like to install this so there is less "work" being done by the pump, ya catch my drift?

Yes, the 190 pump has the ability to pump a larger volume of fuel than the stock 2 pump system. I would avoid using either stock pump with the 190 pump because the stock pumps could limit it's output. That could lead to a shortend life for one or both pumps. The extrnal pump was designed to get fuel from a low pressure/high volume source. I can't image the results being good when that source is switched to a high pressure high volume source.

In your example I believe the external pump would ultimately limit the flow of the 190 pump. The 190 pump is designed to be used by itself.

You don't need to plumb new lines all the way up to the engine compartment to utilize the 190 pump. Just replace the rubber fuel hoses back near the fuel tank.

The only time I have heard of people needing to plumb new lines is because they are using very large fuel injectors with low fuel pressure. In that situation the 1/4" return line doesn't flow enough fuel and the pressure automatically rose. That won't be the case with your car.

There was an article out in Hot Rod or Car Craft that had a showdown of the worlds fastest street legal fuel efficient cars or at least fuel efficient. The top runner was a Grand National that ran like mid to low 12's and got 50 mpg on the highway. A guy in Canada had set his car up so he could calibrate the engine to run efficiently allowing him to run the good 1/4 mile times and then turn around and make adjustments to get rediculous gas mileage. The last place guy got like 38 mpg! I would have to look it up, but it was an article between 1988 and 1992 I believe, when I was in high school.

did you mean to start a new thread?
I don't see what that has to do with the current thread.

I think it was late and I meant this for another thread. I was reading one on fuel economy, I think. Still an interesting article.
