Hi,

ChEM is kind of a dead project now isn't it?

D*Cal seems to have more people on-board with it now, and it's a lot more user-friendly compared to ChEM.

Try the Yahoo D*Cal group.

The Data Logging aspect of it really isn't that hard to do - I just asked Scott Sheen about this and I quote: "OTC Scanner, connected to Laptop" No Magic, No Secrets.

As for the old "people hiding the information" business, that's not the case anymore. Many good Cals, how-to's and software is freely available, provided you look in the right areas.

Later,
Craig

Sure,

- You'd buy an OTC Scanner (2000 or 4000) that is compatible with our cars.
- Get an old laptop from ebay for cheap!
- Attach a serial cable between the two
- hook the OTC to your car
- Take it for a run and use the laptop to record the data from the OTC.

Serial data logging is just fancy speak for recording data from your OTC scanner utilizing a serial (rs-232) connection. Meaning all the bits of data come down the pipe-line serially - i.e. one after another.

Perhaps Scott can drop in and give you an idea of the setup he runs.

Later,
Craig

datalogging with chem is very straighforward with 87 electronics, and its cheap. the only expense is the serial interface adapter. for other models the otc method is probably best (for now).

Check out the run logger page for info on part # and how to make the cable.

My datalogger is on my website www.sheenconsulting.com/car. Craig described it pretty good.

I just got the opportunity to use a DRB2 and that sucker is FAST! There are no Baud rate change options and the AIS possition is great to view for certain tuning. I have logged on the laptop from my slow OTC 4000 with some of the logging programs, but the OTC 400 isn't near as quick as the DRB is. My question, will any of these programs record from the DRB? When I cracked the case open the PCB did have the "OTC" name stamped on it. The serial connector is also the same as the OTC scanner.

Anymore info on the DRB2 Chris? I am googling it now. OTC can go faster if we log less sensors.

The DRB2 is updating info on everything at high speed! One bad thing about it is no Record option either. No more info yet.

Does the DRB have an external montitor or printer output that you can tell? That's how the loggers work, they interpret the text output of the OTC and suss the sensor values out of that stream by screen location.

I remember someone somewhere saying OTC was the manufacturer of all of Chrycos DRB scanners.

I saw "OTC" on the PCB when I tore it apart to install an LED for the LCD.
Yes, it does have the same din connector as the OTC.
I've logged with the OTC to a laptop for a good while now and do have the serial cable, think I will mess with it today and see if it works. I'll let you guys know.

I tried to get Run Logger and Sheen's Datalogger to capture the DRB info and no luck. I ran threw almost every possible combination of port settings and the closest I came to getting "Data logger" to retrieve data is to set it to 14400 and 3 in 1 Domestic 1990, but it will only show 2 lines "Baro" and "MAP" and shows nothing when you look at the Events page. The run logger will capture a crap load of characters, but shows alot of errors and shuts itself down. Running "Port Monitor" show the stream of HEX from the DBR while running either one of the programs. It's tough to determine what it is putting out when there is no option on the DRB to change or display the Baud and other settings.

If you can get it into some mode that looks like "external monitor" mode, you could try Hyperterminal with it. The output should be ANSI or VT100.

That's the only option it gives you is for "Remote Monitor" off or on. I have had it on. Will try the Hyperterm tomorrow.
