Hey. I have an 87 2.2 T1 motor that I am having a shop rebuild for me this week. I have a rebuilt Garrett Turbo 2 just chillin in my china cabinet right now that I'd like to have installed instead of the Garrett T1 unit that is already on there. There are a few things I really need to know.

I am planning on using T2 internals (stock pistons for T2 and rods) and a T1 1-piece intake manifold. I don't know if I need a later T1 exhaust manifold or if my current T1 manifold will bolt up to the turbo and not cause any clearance issues.

The first thing is - will the Turbo2 bolt up to the Exhaust Manifold already present on the 87 2.2 T1? And will the 87 2.2 T1 exhaust housing interfere with the Turbo 1-piece intake?

Second question is - will the throttle body from the 87 bolt up to the 1-piece intake manifold so I can use the old TPS and AIS? Or will the old TPS and AIS work in the new throttle body?

Third question is - If I have to go with the Throttle Body that is already attached to the 1-piece intake and the TPS and the AIS for it. The AIS on the 1-piece setup is 4-wire and in 87 it is 2-wire - how would I go about making this work without a new ECU or can I just install the old AIS into the new throttle body?

As of right now I want to keep running with the 87 2.2 T1 ECU - I want to modify the engine mechanically not electronically right now - have it drivable so I can drive it home from the shop and convert it to the Turbo2 computer later if I feel the need.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as tomorrow (monday) I need to have all of my ducks in a row when I stop by the shop.

So I will HAVE to swap to a T2 ecu - What makes/models/years cars came with T2 as an option in the 2-piece ECU.

I will have to call around to yards and see if I can find one. - Where can I get one if I can't find one in a yard?

It'll be for an 87 2.2 T1 LeBaron Convertible (J-Body)

The fuel will be unevenly distributed between the cyllinders and 2 will run lean and ruin pistons when running the TI ECU. So, yeah, you'll have to change it. Doing the wiring isn't very difficult once you get into it. How were you going to control the idle without updating the wiring and ECU?

Grinding the notch into the exhaust manifold isn't tough to do either. Put your TII turbo on the flange and mark where you need to grind the manifold.
