PAUL or anyone else: does the new 3 bar sensor exactly fit into the same physical space on the logic module where the original 2 bar sensor is installed? i mean, is this swap ONLY a matter of adapting a square electrical connector to a round connector, with the new 3 bar unit fitting exactly into same space as the 2 bar sensor? or, are there other problems w/ a direct swap 2 bar to 3 bar on the glhs LM? i dont want to install the new sensor underhood, rather keep it in stock location on the LM if possible.

one good picture of a completed swap would probably answer all my q's.

Mark - I have spare connectors and can help you hook the map up if you want. I just did a complete wiring swap on my 85 glh and have lots of spare connectors from the donor harnesses. I've also hooked up the GM 3-bar map on two of my cars and that's a piece of cake as well.

Let me know and I'll make up a conversion harness for you - only cost you a couple beers

nope. It wont fit where the LM mounted map does (at least not the ones pictured). It isn't hard to mount it to an underhood map setup and run the wiring from the LM to the new MAP under the hood. I can get you a pic of a completed underhood MAP install, but its not a 3bar map. I have a harness laying around that should have the 3 barrelled plug somewhere on it, the colors wouldn't be right for the map, but its the same connector, and I should be able to get it with a decent amount of wire too - and also, I've got some underhood map setups laying around, if you need either PM me and I'll try to get you what you need.

JONNY thanks! it would be great if i could swing by and look at what you have done, i am sure once i see a completed swap i should be all set. my cell is 860-428-7678 call me and let me know when i can come over (beers in hand of course).

PHREAKISH thanks for the assist, ok so the new map sensor will not fit into the LM as the 2 bar one does....so i will have to come up with a new location......have you ever installed the new sensor near the LM, say in the kick panel? i am trying to keep the underhood looking unchanged, if possible.

Mark - your not going to want to do what I did - I converted my entire harness over to smec using a shadow harness, but I just checked and do have the two connectors we'll need to make you a harness.

Phreakish - the 3-bar map sensor should be able to fit right behind the kick panel next to the LM - just leave the solenoid mounted under hood and use the vacuum line.

Mark - we'll make it work so that everything looks stock

I'll call you later today....

You could do that simply... You'll need to mount the new sensor in the kick panel (its kind of tight, might have to search for room, maybe even on the firewall). And get a pigtail that'll connect to the connector inside the LM.

You can cut the wires off your old LM mounted MAP, if you want, and solder them to the new connector. Then, modify the new connector (the 3 plugged one shown earlier) to connect to the new 3bar map. Then use the original vac line to the old map.

It really shouldn't be all that hard, with parts in hand it'd be even easier (thats how I did my underhood map install, once I get the rats nest of solenoid wiring cleaned up, it'll look great).

thanx guys, big help once again here at td.com

i'll be heading over to JONNYB's speed shop to check out his install.

PAUL & CHRIS at TU: i'll be placing my order for your 3 bar GLHS cal, an an order for a MAP sensor, early in April. Note: i'll be doing back-to-back dyno pulls comparing TU's cal to the MPStg II cal/grainger valve config i currently have, so do a good job for me PAUL! :-)

and i will take pix of the whole mod/install process for others to view.

My "speed shop"...LOL - more like my "work in progress shop" that never seems to get any "progress"...just more cars/parts to add to the list of things that are "works in progress"

I have purchased the the first 2 cals from TU for a GLHS with a 3 bar map. I installed one of them right now and it works perfect. Turn the key...the car starts right up and idles smoothly!! Instant boost, great a/f readings, I have no complaints.

If you are interested in keeping your car original looking and don't feel like messing around with used parts and want a complete bolt in kit with instructions let me know and I can get a complete "under hood map sensor relocation kit" from Chrysler. It has everything you need down to the rubber gromet, tie wraps and new vacuum diagram to stick under your hood. I have a kit in both of my cars. It's not the cheapest thing in the world but it's new and has instructions.
I'm sure if you ask Chris @ TU he can order one for you.

GLHTII thanks for advise and info...actually i am trying to avoid relocating the MAP sensor from the kickpanel to underhood, that is not what i wanted to do, i wanted to keep the MAP sensor right where it is, at the LM in the kick panel.

i look fwd to testing/running the TU cal.

EMMISIONS WITH FLYING COLORS WITH THAT WHOLE SETUP AND I PUT ON A USED CAT!!!!!!!!!

Marcus, Thet's where mine is. I use the "stock" vac line and a "late" model map harness. It can mount in the car in the passenger side area under dash.
