Is is needed?

No, they don't have the sensor stock but may have the wiring from pin. 21 on the SBEC. It's not needed for a stock cal but can be added if you want when your order a custom cal. The IAT reads the air temp in the intake manifold and adjusts fuel accordingly.

The intercooled cars had it, right? But not T1's?
So you're saying the wiring may already be there, is the sensor already there too?
Is it recomended? I plan on 15psi with a cal...

Yes, all factory intercooled cars came with one. Some T1's had the wiring while others did not, they all don't have the actual sensor itself which looks like a coolant sensor.
If you have the wiring from the pin on the SBEC engine harness(no. 21), already go for it and have the vendor add that into your cal, otherwise there is a lot of trouble to add the sensor as you must melt a new pin into the harness socket.
It's nice to have but with 15psi planned make sure you have a decent intercooler is all.
FYI I have a fairly built setup and am currently not utilizing the IAT at this time.

Perfect. That answers my question exactly!

I'm just running a TII i/c front mounted, this should be ok for 15psi? (i have forged venoli's and run 91 octane all the time)

Have any pics/specs of your ride? Thanks, i appreciate your help along the way my fellow 91 Canadian friend!

No prob at all, I ran into the same issue like you. The TII IC is more than fine for 15psi but am not too keen on the 91 octane but if everything is up to snuff you should be fine overall, and the forged pistons really help just in case.
Hehe, heck I'm running three TII IC's custom fab'd into one core, click the link in my sig for my 91' and it should show some pics of last years unrunning setup. . .new one starts up tomorrow!
