Fuel pumps( DIFERNT SENDING UNITS(are the pumps the same)

hey I am trying to find a new fuel pump in the junk yards and I noticed all the sending units are all the in the back of the tank and my is in the side IE. daytona, new yorker ect., This is in a L body Shelby Charger, can I take the whhole sending unit and swap the pumps or do I need to find the right L body turbo Pump. thanx alot Drew
