Guys, I need input on my next step with the Neon. I have acquired a methanol pump and all the supporting parts to spray a 50/50 mix with my 52shot instead of tapping into the vehicle's fuel system. I have been searching for answers on several forums (turbobuick,turbomustangs,corral,TD,Honda-Tech, etc) for specific information and I can not find anyone who has posted or will share HARD data! I know that the specific energy of methanol is roughly .7 of gasoline, so does that leave me with the simple math of adding in 30% more? If so, at what pressure? I am thinking 80psi as a start but, the thing that worries me is the complimentary cooling nature of methanol and N2o. i have found some posting on the TurboBuick (or SNOW) that when methanol is sprayed with N2o you will pick up 25% whp. I also read the cooling effect is greater but, no data is given.

Does anyone have input for me on this? A book suggestion perhaps?

Dave I was chatting with SMP yesterday about Methanol. SMP says to keep a safe mixture he is using 2.3 times more methanol than he would of gasoline. So if you know how much more gas you would need multiply that by 2.3. Most Methanol pumps Ive seen are figured off of 100 psi, but what Id do is hook a gauge at the end of the system to verify pressure, otherwise flow will be off. Something else discovered is depending on how big you jet things, you need to run a larger supply line to the pump to keep good pressure. ALso, Id run pure Methanol not a mix.

As far as the Nos mix, I have no experience with it.

Wallace, thanks! SMP is running 2.3 times more vs gasoline? That makes the math MUCH easier to err on the side of richness. As for the pump pressure I was going to verify actual pressure and restrict it if needed. Don't worry line size is adequate! As for pure methanol I may, it depends on the class rules.

stoich for methanol is like 7.something:1 if you use a wideband, you should still shoot for 11-12:1 because the wideband measures o2 in the exhaust and if it is set up for gas. it will read 14.7: at stoich for any fuel being burned.in other words if you are stoich with meth, your actual afr will be 7:1 but the gauge will still read 14.7:1.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but i have a Alky Kit from Devilsown. Im running a 3bar setup right now to 20psi and then adding alky as an additive to get up to 26psi. I want to run Methanol instead...Is there anything i have to do different? add Marvel Mystery Oil or something for lubrication?
Should i run straight methanol or a mix?

Just run it straight. I set mine until it started flooding out the engine then backed it up a little.

QKsilver, if you use the wideband in Lamda instead of A/F wont that read correctly?

You can run anything in it esentially, but keep in mind Tolulene has some really werid flame tails when it burns.

yes, there was a thread on this a while back, if you tune for a certain lambda with gas, you can tune for that same lambda with any fuel. so say you shoot for a lambda of .82 with gas, you can shoot for that same .82 with alcohol but will be injecting more than twice as much alcohol as you normally would for gas
