I was thinking of running methanol injection on my 87 dakota t2 project, Im wanna run the alky so i can run lower octane gas. I was gonna use a dodge washer bottle and a cheap in-line fuel pump. My problem is with triggering the system I'm thinking a hobbs switch to turn on the pump and then a WOT microswitch to trigger the injector, I'm doin it this way because i dont want it spraying all the time only when its runnin higher RPM's. Does this make any sense or is it just gonna flood the engine?

If you inject the correct amount of water/alcohol the motor should not bog no matter what the RPM. What do you plan to use for injector? Water/alcohol or even just alcohol will destroy a normal injector or fuel pump in a very short period of time. A pair of hobbs switched can be used. One to turn the pump on at very low boost to prime the system and another to control injection set at 10psi or something. A WOT switch will work but keep in mind you can make a lot of boost at part throttle.

from my experiance.... you dont need to switch the pump and injector at difforent times to "prime the system". my pump (from a volvo, nice external pump) and injectors are wired to the same switch and when it triggers, they are both instant! the pump will go from 0 to 80 psi instantly and the injectors start spraying in the same instant, and the longer i have my foot in it (with the pump on) the higher the pressure will build. it shoots to about 80psi right away, and will work its way up to 140psi the longer i have it on. make sure your lines can handle the pressure before you use a fuel pump!!!!!!!
in my oppinion, using regular injectors is the way to go, since you can get about any size you can imagine from the junk yard and you can be preaty sure they will spray nicely. im using 2, 3.0
chrysler V6 injectors. 16pph i think? anyway, they pump lots! maby too much.

I have always planned on using the flex fuel injectors because they are stainless and wont rust and seize on you at the worst time. I'd be very worried about regular injectors seizing up one day when the motor is under boost. If you have a motor setup to rely on the water/alcohol it wouldn't last long without it.

There was a FFV Ranger too. And some of the V6 Chryslers had FFV setups didn't they? Pretty sure I saw one at the junkyard last year.

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but i wanted to update on my system....
ive set my pump to hit 80psi and stay there, still using 2 3.0V6 injectors, and 50/50 mix.
to date, i have run 31psi through my van on an HX-35, cal, 3 bar, +40s, a 782head and pump gas, with nothing but success and i still need to eyther back off the alcohol or add more boost, as right now at 31psi (on the street) my EGT temps are sitting at only about 1400*. after driving like that, i can pull over and put my hand on my intake and its only about as warm as the water youd use to wash your hands! forget buying expensive systems!!!!!! i did this one for about 50$ and so could anyone else with the right simple stuff! a washer bottle, junk yard external fuel pump, junk yard injector/s, a pressure switch, and a bottle of methal hydrate from the hardware stores paint section!
go out there and give er!!

How exactly will alcohol destroy an injector? Please explain.

Only reason I say this is I've seen non-FFV vehicles run E-85 no problem with no changes. Engine was tore down and everything looked perfect as well. You don't need a FFV to run E-85, but it is recommended.

well, in the simplest sense, alcohol dries up wery fast and takes any moisture with it and it also has a high oxogen content (someone correct that if im wrong), but it will eventualy corode the crap out of aluminum, rust steel, dry out seals, wipe the thin coat of oil off your cylender walls causing your rings to burn up, and cause alot of other problems over time. as for an alcohol injection system, unless your using FFV injectors (made of stainless steel and propper seals) they will eventualy over time, corode up and die. same with the pump you use unless its an FFV pump (stainless steel internals and propper seals) also, you would want to use good lines to run the alcohol so a regular rubber fuel line dosnt eventualy drie out and crack. FFV vehicles also use stainless steel fuel rail and lines. so one could run E-85 in a regular engine, but not for an extended period of time, like wise, on an easy home made alcohol injection system, plan on replacing the injector/s and pump over time if not from an FFV car.
