There is no point to putting it before the TB on my draw through car.
My setup goes Air-Box->TB->Turbo->Intake
I was afraid to spray before the turbo because of some peoples horror stories, So I placed a nozzle adapter in the hose between turbo outlet and intake manifold.

I wanted to use the meth/water as a pseudo intercooler. I needed it to come on low down and wasn't planning on running more boost. So I wanted the hottest possible point in the intake track and I wanted enough distance between injection and the intake runners to insure atomization even with low pump pressures and low boost.

My choices were in the hose with an adapter ($12 to replace) or take the head off to get at the intake manifold to drill and tap. No brainer there.

The rule of thumb about the TB is mainly for blow-through cars that have the TB after the Turbo.

And it works very well by the way.


Question for the other meth heads out there, did you re-gap your plug after? and to what gap?

It's a 2gph injector from Devil's Own.

The sizes are all pretty standard just depends on your set-up.
Ideally my 2.2 under 12lbs. at 6000rpm would need like a 4-5gph injector but my car is a daily, and an auto. and I baby it so it never see's north of 4500rpm, plus I wanted to start spraying down low (2-5psi) instead of just before knock would occur (10-15psi). So I ordered a 1 and 2gph. The 2gph at 250psi is closer to 3.3gph which about right for 12psi @ 4500rpm from 2.2l.

Really, spraying the compressor inlet is the best way.

Oh I'm not saying it isn't. The benefit of cooling both the turbo itself and the intake charge as it's compressed is huge...

And I'd love to try, maybe I will next summer. But for me right now, this being my daily driver and only ride besides the wife's until spring. I just can't get passed some of the stuff I read about even finely atomized water etching compressor blades turning at 60k rpm.

Don't get me wrong I'm not contesting what you've told me, It just worries me that's all.

I appreciate you speaking up about it though. If this "damaging your compressor" buisness is all wives tale then let's dispel it and get on with the buisness of perfecting the best intercooling option us (pre 89) T1 guys have.

My setup is the same, basically stock. Did you take any pics prior to installing? Interested in seeing how you did it. The tapping the intake sounds like a good idea as well. Where would you recommend?

Now if doing it before the turbo as "omnifan" suggest where would the nozzle be placed? Could the TB be drilled and a nozzle added after the butterfly?

If I were going to tap the intake I would go with the elbow spraying from driver to passenger side down the log. I thought a lot about it and this would be best.

While your in there though. Do yourself a big favor and do something no-one ever talks about with the log T1's.

Replace the factory hoses with 4-ply silicone units. They are so cheap, and when you get the old one off and see the difference you'll know why I said so. I find that the couplers alone helped a lot.

Yeah either tap the TB or put an adapter in your hose between TB and turbo.

You should spray it Valentine, you know how a T2 intercooler is worth 20hp on a log engine. Well there only something like 60-65% efficient with 1-4psi drop. Alcohol is 100+% efficient with negligible pressure drop.

I plan on spraying, just want to make sure it's placed at the best place. So far placing it on the intake elbow sounds like the best idea.

On another water injection forum, there was a guy involved in the discussion about WI into the compressor, and he complained that he trashed his turbo. Then one of the other posters piped in to say that the first guy never ran an air cleaner! little bits hitting your compressor wheel at a million miles per hour might perforate the wheel!!!

On that note, I suspect, because of the higher tip speeds involved with larger turbo compressor wheels, if one was to squirt the turbo with a stream, and expect for the turbo to atomize it, you could damage the wheel when big drops hit the wheel at high shaft RPMS. I wonder if any of the turbo manufacturers have done studies on this???

I think the safest way would be after the turbo, just before the intake. Now the big question which manufacturer makes the best/safest system out there?
