I recently needed to replace my windshield washer pump that powered my
alcohol injection system.(home made) I found an even better way to go, so
I'll pass it on here.
Autozone sells a 'universal windshield washer' kit for $24.99. It has a resevoir with an attached pump motor and hoses. It even has a spray nozzle in it. (I used a different one)
The other parts I used are as follows: A Mcmaster-Carr misting nozzle. PN3178K87. This produces a very fine mist for maximum cooling effect.
It also has a filter screen on it. You can order it from www.mcmaster.com
You'll also need a pressure switch to turn the unit on. I used a NAPA part
701-1575. This is a Hobbs switch that comes set at 5 PSI. You can adjust it by removing the rubber plug at the top of the tower and using a hex wrench.
On my T1 draw thru car, I mounted this in front of the air box, in between the rad and the battery. Get it down as low as you can so the liquid level
is BELOW the spray nozzle. That way there will be no problem with hydrolocking the motor! I put the nozzle in the rubber section of the intake
line between the throttle body and the air box. I can now run 15lbs boost on my 'Log' and she recently went 15.35 in the 1/4 with no intercooler. :big grin: Total cost of this is around $60. Enjoy!

Awesome!!. I am gonna add that to my car for sure! maybe with a pair of lines, one for H2O injection, and the other for cooling the surfaces of the dual Supra intercoolers.

So you just spray a fine mist of alcohol/water into the motor? How well is it working for you? Does it have any illeffects on the motor/turbo?
Thanks,
-Chris

I am curious, why you chose this specific kind of alchol as opposed to ethanol, methanol, or isopropyl, or another combustible organic altogether (acetone, xylene, etc.) As I understand, Denatured alcohol is a blend of Ethanol and Methanol in certain proportion (at least the stuff at work was). Please enlighten us?

Correct, the spray is sucked into the TB, goes through the turbo and into the intake. The alcohol/water mist has a cooling effect on the hot compressed intake charge. This is known as chemical intercooling.
It will also 'steam clean' your combustion chambers and valves asit is used.
The setup haas been on my daily driver for over 2 years. It ran a 15.35 last
Friday.

Well, the short answer to that is
because that is what GUS said he used! :big grin: I'm pretty sure you could use rubbing alcohol also. I just wanted to say what had worked for me.
Xylene is another item to use, but I use that for an octane booster in the gas tank. For 100 octane homemade 'race' gas, try 3 gallons 92 octane Chevron premium mixed with 1 gallon xylene and a couple ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil .

I see what you are saying. I had read about the use of xylene as an octane booster in another thread in the fuel section.
When I get the Z running, I'll probably test different combustible organics in a chemical intercooling setup like yours. Acetone occurred to me because one time at work when we were out of expoxy solvent (an alcohol, xylol & Ketone blend) I had to use straight acetone to clean some stuff up instead. It evaporated very quickly, but the acetone soaked rag also sucked all the heat out of my hand, damn that stuff felt cold. Though I wonder, since the methanol took longer to evaporate, maybe it can absorb more heat? I guess I'll just have to test and find out.

I have used hexane and toulene in titrations where I work. I'd be sure to use
something that is soluable in water. I don't think xylene is. I mean if you mixed it with water, I think it would seperate. Denatured Alcohol stays in
solution.
