I might buy a 1986 Daytona Turbo Z off a friend and the stock A413 needs to be replaced. I heard that i need a tranny from a 1986 model or older. Why is that? And is anything else involved or needed or is it a simple replacement when i do get the tranny. I'll appreciate any info, thanks.
By the way, if anyone has an A413 for sale around CT, please let me know.

you heard wrong. you need a 1986 transmission only. 1985 and older has the wrong torque converter and will not bolt up to the flex plate. 87 and newer has larger axle shafts and his axles work work. that is a bastard year. the way around both dilemas is: get an older trans and change the front pump assembly along with the torque converter or get a newer trans and replace both axle shafts.

Want a good '86 A413? I pulled it out last weekend. It is in great operating condition. I'm doing a 5-speed swap. I'll give it to you for the cost of shipping plus $20 for my time. I believe they can be shipped without the torque converter and be within weight limits.

PM me if interested.

I'm glad I read this thread. I was ready to buy back my old '85 Woody Wagon(AKA "WoodUp") for the transmission, so I can put it in my '90 Daytona.
That would have sucked.
