The fidanza is nothing like lotashelby's I just sold mine after jackson passed one of his on to me. Played with the shifter in his r/t and it is hard to explain, just know there is a difference and jackson has got the best shifter for our car! the fidanza is disappointing cause only the upper area(where your shifter knob is) seems to be the only difference compared to the stock one.

Well, i got my fidanza STS installed today, i gotta say its pretty short and i'm rather happy about it, i'd say it has about 3.5"-4" through from 1st-2nd gear, when i was watching the video above my post to compare against mine, i gotta say it looks like the same amount of "throw" from 1st-2nd gear as my fidanza unit. Anyhow i'm happy with my new shifter and would recommend it as a cheaper STS to anyone. Now if only i knew what mods (synchro's) would help ease the tension to shift from one gear to another.

Remember I have had both. The throw on the fidanza feels shorter but compare the two it isn't close to 3.5" maybe about 1-1.5. Jacksons' shifter is closer to the 4inch short throw. The fidanza doesn't move much of anything to make a 3+inch difference. i'd be surprise if it made a 2.25inch difference. But for a cheap shifter the fidanza isn't bad. But for a real difference and a real short throw jackson has the best in the market.

i have an 87 shelby z, with the a555 trans. all i would have to do to make a short throw shifter for it is take an inch from the top shaft, weld it to the bottom shaft, and raise the shifter platform up an inch?

I have the same car. What I did to make a short throw, is cut a few inches from the top, and also extend the bottom. IIRC, I removed 3 inches from the top, and extended the bottom by .75". That cut the throw in half! I decided to leave the distance between 1st, 3rd, and 5th the same as it was. I have the ability to retain the reverse lockout if I choose, but with the shift knob I am using, I probably won't.

If you want to see how I did it, I can try and get some pics posted this weekend. I have not installed it in the car yet, since I am waiting on a transmission rebuild kit to come in. It should be a blast to drive though - only 3 inches of travel from 1st to 2nd.

You can definitely keep the reverse lockout. What I did on mine, was cut out a 3 inch section of the upper tube. I tig welded it back together, keeping it hollow in the middle. Now, you will have to fabricate a piece that runs from the reverse locklout ring down to the plastic piece, but 1/4" steel rod is a perfect fit. All you will need is a piece of 1/4" rod with 2 holes drilled in it, and you will retain your reverse lockout.

If you don't want to go through all that trouble, lengthening the bottom piece will also make for shorter throws, but I wanted to get the throw as short as possible, which is why I did top & bottom mods.

OK, could a 523 shifter from whatever is the first year for 523s, '90 Daytona , fit into a 88 Daytona? Has one of these shifters ever broke? I sat in a new Mustang Shelby, shifter felt so good! I'm wanting to get rid of the travel!

The shifter will physically bolt in, but will not work with the older 4-plane shift trannies(A525,520,555). I personally like the feel of the 4-plane shift better becuase it doesn't use bushings. They use plastic ball-cups and to me they feel a lot more solid. However, if you get some good bushings in the new style cables it does make a WORLD of difference.

Finally got a 568 in the car. Can you explain how to change out the cable brackets to make the SRT-4 shifter work?

why not PM lotashelbys and have him ship you one of his? I promise with a set of booger bushings you won't believe how much less a throw you have and how firm the shifts are.

so regardless of shorter throw....I think the most important thing is to improve the 2-3 shift.

Bansheenut says his B&M improved the 2-3 shift.
Ive heard that repinning the levers on the trans can help (removing slop) but banshee seems to have a good 2-3 shift without doing that.

So I am interested to try both of bansheenut's shifters because he will have the B&M and Jackson's one of these days.
