Year, make, model, auto or manual, mileage...

Nothing of those things are important.

he is not being a smart a$$ because he didn't assUme what you were talking about. There are many threads here people are not talking about the car by their name.

When does it slip cold hot all gears one gear between gears? And whats a little low 8oz or 2 quarts? or am I a smart a$$ for asking that?

well tim i actually thought you might have been someone worth talkin to about trying to get my tranny fixed but judging by your last statement your lookin for a heated argument which is a total waste of my time....

i have things to do and i need help... not arguments with old men...

but if you can help and not front me about a statement that i made to someone else and had nothin to do with you AND without tryin to get smart (which i would appreciate) then i will tell you...

it slips cold and hot.... only second gear and it slips after about 3 thousand rpms... so i have to floor it through first then bog down into third....

not good for my gas or engine.....

and it was barely low at all a couple ounces...

since i did an engine swap from a 2.5 (the 2.5's tranny has a filter, while 2.2 didnt i believe) could i just change the filter and fluid and it might fix it...

i havent tried any anti slip cause i can smell the burnt band and figured it was a waste of money (am i wrong should i try the anti slip???)

please help

well that last line I wrote might have been a bit cocky (sorry) but the first paragragh wasn't it just explains people do need to list in the thread what were talking about. My questions were serious. And actually a better start to a thread would include that info. Actually I didn't think much of his response because I wanted the same info he wanted before giving good advice it was your reply that got me going. At first I was just going to back out and go somewhere else but I figured there might be something that could be done to fix it for a while.

Second gear is a band that is adjustable. There are 2 bands inside the 3 speed auto. I haven't worked on these in a while but the one you need to check the adjustment on is the one that is closer to the bell housing. The adjustment may be on the outside of the trans. If the band is out of adjustment the shift from 2nd to 3rd will feel soft since it is a timing shift. The band releases and a clutch applies. If out of adjustment the band will release before the clutch applies and it just doesn't feel right when it does that. the 1st to 2nd might just feel lazy. Going from 1st to second the band starts to apply and as it does a sprag releases so there really isn't a timed shift.

Do a search for band adjustment if the band isn't smoked yet it should help.

here post 5 tells you how to do it. If you don't have an inch pound torque wrench tighten it firm 70inlb is about 6 foot pounds. A413 band adjustment?

well i've only let it slip in second a few times to make sure it was slipping... but once i realized what was going on i made sure that it wasnt going into second gear... but sometimes after driving my car i can smell the tranny.... (like burnt) and i had a pontiac and the tranny went out (due to neglect, whereas i do take care of my daytona) and on my grand am thats the same smell i smelt right before the whole tranny went out....

there are many tranny shops in my area but almost all of them say either they dont work on side mounted trannys or they want to charge a ridiculous amount of money...

my mechanic is great but hes not really a tranny specialist..... hes a general kinda person

i just want my car fixed lol... and im only 16 and i definitely dont no how to work on trannys and tighten the bands and stuff....

read the post in the link. It is very easy. There is a threaded stud with a lock nut. Hold the threaded stud so it doesn't move and back off the lock nut. If you have a torque wrench (but I doubt you do being 16) turn the stud in until torque is reached. (no torque wrench just seat it not quite firm) count the turns in and you will know if it was out of adjustment if it turns in more then 1.5 turns. CBack it out 1.5 turns and lock the lock nut down. Thats all there is. Its a 15 minute job and you have nothing to lose. If it shifts better change the fluid and filter. Mopar transmissions are a lot tougher then GM transmissions. Give it a shot.

im sure my dad has a torque wrench..... he used to be a big time mechanic... now he has a hot shot job and he works from 2 pm to 11pm so we never get to work on cars together anymore.....

so it'll probably just be me doing it...

make sure it is an inch pound torque wrench and not a foot pound torque wrench. If you use a foot pound torque wrench you will break things.
