I found some info here on then520 Diff/Output shaft and the years to match them up with (87/88 to 87/88 89 to 89)). I found two donar cars this weekend at the jyard. Also found 3 523 trannys. Not to sure about anything I could use from them. Any comments on the 523????

On the 520/555 swap for matching the years I assume you mean to use the tranny tag for the years vs what they came out of? The tag is 88 but came out of a 89 Turbo Minivan.

This is all goigin into the GLHS with the linkage conversion. Noy going to cut up the G' car

You have to match years of manufactor? I hadn't heard that...I have an '87 520 and an '89 555, {at least that's what yr the vehicles were**, is this going to work, i.e. 520 intermediate shaft and diff into 555?

I don't think so. I *think* the grouping is '87-'88 and '89-'92 for the I shaft swapping from what I remember Cliff saying. Definitely double check me though.

I came across the tranny year info (this is not the axle spline being bigger) on some tranny web site. I'll have to dig it out as it was buried.

All I remember is the 520 diff/shaft from an 87/88 had to go into a 555 87/88. The 89 was listed as different from those.

No explanation. I'll get back on this.

BTW I found 2 A520's 3.50 FD this weekend...

Found the info right here on TD.com from our own Clif Ramsdell

quote:
OK, you can swap the 3.50 final drive gear set (intermediate shaft, ring gear and diff carrier) from a 520 into a 555. This will require you to remove 1st thru 4th from the intermediate shafts from both and swap the 555 stuff onto the 520 shaft. NOTE: if you have an '87/'88 555 you must use an '87/'88 520 for the intermediate shaft and if you have an '89 555 you will need to use an '89 520 for the donor shaft. You must also use the 520 ring gear and differential carrier assembly as the tooth pitch and tooth count are different. The 3.50 gear final drive with the 555 gear set makes a great transmission in a lighter car where you don't need all the torque multiplication of the 3.85 gear set. I have built about a dozen of these setups and you can even use the Neon Quaife in the setup. This swap also holds true for the '90 and later 568, you can use the 3.50 gear set from a 523 transmission. If you looking for more transmission tips you can check out my transmission links on my home page, just scroll down till you find them.

I was quoted $125.00 a piece if I pull them. One is in a LeBaron the other is a Daytona. Per Cliff's info I'm going to "Match Years" at least. The LeBaron looks like a cream puff so that's the one I'm going after.....
