since you say you have the heim joints, and all worked well before, your prob is most likely right where the main shift tube is clamped onto the shifter. i presume that you already have confirmed that when you depress the shifter downward to engage reverse, the shifter bump block underneath the floor actually clears the guide stop, if it doesnt, then you will never get into reverse. once that is confirmed:

put the car into 1st gear.

loosen the clamp so the tube is free to move back and forth. make sure you do not take the car out of 1st gear, if you do, you need to put it back into 1st.

position the shifter as instructed in the manual (line up the sight line).

slightly snug the tube clamp, being careful to keep the car in first and the shifter sight line aligned with the mark.

using vice grips on the tube, carefully rotate the tube (dont let the car go out of 1st) to the drivers side to take up any tiny bit of slack/backlash, then tighten the clamp all the way. you may need to tweak the right-to-left positioning of the tube to ensure you get reverse and fifth gear since those two gears are at the extremes of the left-right shifter movement.

i found that w/ the heim joints you need very precise positioning of 1st/reverse to get the system to work right.
