HI,

I was driving home today and lost all gears in my 89 Daytona Shelby 5spd. Shifter was just loose. Managed to pop it in gear under the hood and limp home. I took the console out and the cable had popped off the shifter on the passenger side. It looks like a ball and cup design. I popped it on and all is well for the short drive I had to make. What do I need to replace to keep this from happening again? Is that end on the cable replaceable or a bushing made for it? I searched and seen post about bushing but they seem to be for the trany side not the shifter.

Thanks,
Bernie

fwd performance sells a set of bushings there are 4 in the set enough to do both ends. some set ups use 4 small bushings and some use 3 small and 1 large. I bought a set off of cindy before she started selling the ones she has now they were made by I believe a company called booger bushings. I believe she has changed her supplier so I don't know how they fit. they are solid and better then the stock bushings.

Those bushings only work on 1990+ cars. Before that, they're completely different.

To the original poster, those ends can be very easily changed, although I've never heard of someone having trouble with the shifter side. It might have gotten hung up due to lack of lubrication. Try popping both of them off (both cables have the same ends at the shifter end), put just a small amount of grease in each of them, and see what happens. It might be just a fluke thing.

You just need to find one of these to hold it on.

I have one for my car if that ever happens.

Is that something I can get at the dealer or off another car?

Thanks
