My 85 laser has the 525 trans with equal length axels. It still has the original chrysler axels. The issue is the passenger side outboard rubber boot tore and expelled the grease.

Would it be better to clean out the old grease and put a new boot with fresh grease or just buy a new axel. A local auto parts shop sells a new made in USA axel from EMPEI for $77. The axel with the torn boot does not show any signs of wear. The boots are like $17 each and I would want to replace both the inboard and outboard. Is it hard to take the axel apart?

The ones from autostoned are only $64 and are brand new. I asked them origin of manufacture and they stated it was Canada. I bet they may have been packaged in Canada but are made in China. It is amazing to me that new axels could be only $64. I would be concerned that one would fail while on the highway with my family in the car.

I guess my car is not a race car so it may just be good enough for a mildly hopped up daily driver.

honestly though a axel failing can happen with any manufactor. for piece of mind you could get it replaced like once a year if you wanted to.

and my car is putting some pretty good hp down and i use them. havent broke one yet.
