Ok I will start out by giving a little introduction. I was big in to turbo dodges about 8 years ago and kind of moved on. but the 2.2 turbos started my love of forced air induction. my first turbo car actually was a subaru gl-10. Then first 2.2 turbo was a 84 turbo Z, then came many shelby daytonas, a dodge 600 convertible turbo, My favorite car I had was my 92 Iroc R/T daytona but always broke down on me but did I ever love how quick it was when running right! Then I moved on I have had a mini cooper s, a srt-4, and a evo 8 rs, my wife still has a evo ix, but I since sold my evo and got a quad cab dakota,
I really missed having a go fast turbo car to tinker with so I was really looking for a glh-t because I have always wanted one. But I found a 85 shelby charger.
The chargers interior is in great shape and the exterior really isnt that bad for the year it is and the paint is good but a repaint, has some rust around the wheel wells that need attention and some dings and dents.
So I was told that the motor was replaced with one from a lebaron it is still a turbo I with the old style intake. The bad is the tranny was blown apart and the guy said the new one would not line up. He told me that the pin that goes in the tranny will not go in. But after further investigation I checked the tranny to see what tranny it is and it is not a a525 or a555 the number started with 4 and the build date was 83 so I'm convinced it is not a turbo tranny at all? could this be the reason it is not lining up? also what tranny came in the chargers it was the a525 correct? Anyone have the correct tranny in good working order for sale? anyone around the York PA area want to come check this out when I get it home and maybe len a hand with getting a trans back in? (beer and some cash could be in order for helping LOL) I'm pretty sure me and my brother could manage putting one back in but I haven't messed with on of these cars for a while and would be nice to have a extra hand or knowledge of someone who is familiar with them yet!
I'm also wondering about the old style intake can that be swapped with the newer two piece style so I can intercool this car or is there more involved? never messed with to many turbo I's. But after getting the right tranny and getting it installed I would like to get it intercooled if possible to get some more power out of it? sorry for the long post and please dont flame me if I asked stupid questions I will also be searching alot tonight!
Well any answers or help will be greatly appreciated!
thanks
John

not shur what u mean by not lining up? i know that all 2.2/2.5 trans fit all blocks. there is a difference in inputshaft sizes. i think you have a 460 or 465 trans that blew up. a 525 is what the car would have come with with 3.56:1 final drive. putting the trans in by urself is really ez with a little inginuity. i seen guys use a cherry picker or come along to lift the trans into place.

ok he showed me a hole in the bell housing where it conects to the motor its around the edge where the bolt holes are and he said there is a pin or a stud that slides in to it and he said it would not go in he said it needs tapped or something? Not sure I really didnt get to look at it on the engine side? I guess I should also clear up that the pin stud what ever it is that goes in the hole is on the engine side not on the tranny the tranny has the hole it is suppose to go in to.

that sounds like a dowel pin to perfectly line up the engine to the trans. this "he" guy you are talking about is totally clueless. all the 2.2 and 2.5 transmissions fit all 2.2 and 2.5 engines from the the stand point of bolt pattern. maybe the problem is the dowel pin is in the trans from one engine and the other engine has the dowel pin in the block - where it's suppose to be. so effectively there are two pins hitting each other. i dunno but a picture of the problem would be a lot easier to see what's happening.

also possibly could be a 4 spd from a VW engined L body ,...

I have an 87 SC tranny in my garage if you need som pix or anything ; the SC & GLH came with a higher (3.87?) FDR so even if you find an NA trans that fits it will not be the same internally

altho I am not aware of any strengthening or other design features that the turbo 525s got that the NA 525s didnt.... besides FDR

WRT yur question on 'later intake manifolds' - do a search for 'TII conversion' and you will find all you need to know ; besides TD.com there are many individual websites detailing the swap

the vw trans wouldnt have the same bellhousing bolt locations.
N/A shelby chargers and glh had 3.87 final. the difference between a turbo and non turbo 525 was in the differential. nonturbo 2 spider gears and turbo had 4. (so did minivan) turbo trans final was 3.56, nonturbo 3.05 and as mentioned sc 387
