okay. I think I found the source of my knocking sound. The input shaft on my tranny wiggles quite a bit. I can actually see bits of metal inside the seal there. There's also tranny fluid IN the torque converter. I'd think that would mean that the bearing is going out??

I also pulled the pan off and there was a good ammount of metal IN the pan and on the outside of the valve body.

Can someone confirm that this would cause my knocking sound that I was hearing, and the loss of power. When I pulled the car into the garage, I noticed that no matter how much gas I gave it, the car didn't want to move. My Dakota did the same thing when the tranny died

The tranny sounds dead. No big deal. Throw it away and find another one at the wreckers.

that's what I wanted to know. I can swap a tranny out no problem, but I wanna make sure that's the problem before I go and spend $75 at the yard.

thanks

There should be tranny fluid in the torque converter.

You found the problem, lots of metal and a loose shaft. There should only be a fuzz of metal on the magnet, no more.
