I have a built up 525, and for some reason the previous owner installed the NA charger 3.87's. Is there any way to simply swap in the original gear set w/o completely tearing apart the tranny?

No, the mainshaft and ring gear are a matched set for each gear ratio. The number of teeth is wrong for the 3.56 ring gear.
