Problem: Under hard acceleration or high RPM shifting (racing). My 2 and 4 gear do not want to engage. 1 3 5 are all fine but the other 2 gears feel really spongy and I can get them to where they should be . It feels like I am pulling on a rubberband. If I am at a moderate RPM or speed and pull the shifter gently and slowly it will engage the gears. There is nothing wrong with the tranny itself, just somewhere between the shifter and the selectors on the tranny.

How hard is it to change the shifter cables ? Are they still available from the dealer? If I cant get them from the dealer wheres the next best spot to get some. Please keep in mind this is an A-568 and I don't have any pick a parts anywhere near me.

But I am almost positive its the cables. I know one of them lay on the exhaust for quite some time and was fairly melted before I could get to it. Could this be this cable finally letting go??

Now since I posted in the help section , I have adjusted the neutral on the cross over cable and checked all the bushings. There is a crack on the housing that holds the shifter ball and it is a little sloppy . What else could this be.

It feels like pulling a rubber band into 2-4- and reverse!

I work at Forward Motion part time and we can get the 568 cables you need. Forward Motion's phone no# is 302-658 2829. Ask for Mike or Ryan they can get you what you need.

Thanks. I am going to check the possiblity of one of the stops coming off and allowing the slop in the cable when pulling the shifter downwards.

otherwise, check the motor mounts... i believe that if they're bad and the motor's a rockin... the cables are "shifted" from the proper position, and won't shift properly...

just my $.02

Okay man I will check all the mounts again. I am actually only really concerned about one mount, that being the bobble strut. If that is shot what are some sure fire ways to tell?

BADA-BING! There we go then I would say it is a combination of a broken shifter housing and worn out bobble strut then. I am losingh a lot of torque through the bobble strut, that engine moves a fair bit!

I am having the same problem I feel. I just ordered the front motor mount assembly from Quickor and also the rear poly solid adjustable bobble strut. I am hoping that by keeping the trans still the shifter cabes will be closer to spec create an easier shift, especially when I am driving hard.

I notice that if I rip on my shifter back into second it will sometimes go back but not be in gear. This is annoying for 1/4 times and 60 ft times.

There is also play in my shifter. I was told there might be some kind of bushing in the trans that deals with this. Is this true? How can I eliminate the shifter play.. I just had this trans rebuilt so it sucks having the play hehe..

I was also told that CCNP or something like that shifter bushings were installed. I thought this dealt with the slop but maybe im wrong. Or maybe the bushings wore out? I highly doubt it as they would have been replaced in the last 5k miles or so.
