ummmm, what's it mean when you shift to third gear and it sounds like a large aluminum baseball card in some large steel spokes? and then gets louder if you give it gas? jeez, i can't believe it's possible that i fegged up my tranny already. *sigh* well, it's a 520. rebuild it? get a 555? what's a rebuild cost in florida? should i just get another from the junkyard?
thanks
tony

Does it do it in all gears? Louder and faster as the car picks up load/speed? If you answered 'yes', then it sounds to me like the output shaft bearing failed. I've had two A520s fail like this on me in the past year.

The Lancer's was replaced with an A555; the Shadow's was replaced with an A568. So far so good.

FWIW

The Chrysler 465/525/520/555 manual transaxle has a problem with bearing plate deflection at high hp levels . The factory plate is mild steel which deforms causing the input shaft bearing to lose it's preload and spread the gearset apart causing destruction of third gear. 1990-1993 523 & 568 transaxles are not affected by this problem.

It happened to me LOL!

This is from Gary's site....Source
