Just curious what clutch I should use for my light/mild modded T1 Horizon. I did read back and it looks like a stock TII clutch seems like more than enough (I'm not lookin for aftermarket anyhow).

"The stock 2.2 TII or 2.5 TI minivan clutch package will work well for you application. " So, a newer Daytona or 5-speed Mini clutch will do me good?

Will a TII clutch bolt up to an 85 engine (6 bolt flywheel, not 8 - difference?)?

And also, I'm using a 520 from an unknown year of a car, what year TOB would fit my car?

Thanks!

the later style pressure plate will have a different bolt pattern. anybody know if he can use his old pressure plate with the new clutch disc? doesn't sound right though...

i thought the pressure plate bolt holes where the same on either the 6 or 8 bolt flywheels.

if this is the case, the best bang for the buck for you IF the tranny spline is correct would be to get a Spirit R/T clutch and p/p.

Cool, looks like I'll be looking for a Spirit R/T clutch. I guess what I need to know now if it will bolt right up or not, any more opinions?

Mike

Since my cars are not highly modified I usually just order a T-II clutch & plate telling the parts person it's for a Daytona.

Never tried ordering a Spirit RT set up so I can't tell you if it will work or not.

Sounds like a regular T-II will be sufficent for your T-1 Omni.

Well, unless my skills with a ruler have gone down the drain. The flywheels have different bolt patterns. Pretty dumb, but I forgot I had some old rusty 8-bolt flywheels laying around.

Both flywheels have 3 dowel pins with 2 bolt holes in between each. I measured between the two bolt holes on each one. The 6-bolt has the bolts spaced 5 and 3/16ths, and the 8 bolt is about 4 and 7/8ths.

And aye, anytime I've ordered parts I ask for a Daytona, that's what most my stuff is anyhoo.

So, is this bolt spacing going to pose a problem, what year clutch will I need to ask for to get one that fits?

Well, with a little more research - the Spirit R/T clutch is outta the question. From Gary D's website...

1. 82-85 6 bolt crank, small 215 mm pressure plate pattern.
2. 84-84 6 bolt crank, large 230 mm pressure plate pattern.
3. 86-94 8 bolt crank, small 215 mm pressure plate pattern.
4. 86-93 8 bolt crank, large 230 mm pressure plate pattern.
5. 91-93 16 valve 8-bolt/230 mm p.p. with crank trigger slots.

The 230mm are for Turbo's, 215 is a Carb/TBI. I'm guessing I have the #2 flywheel, 6 bolt - although I'm not positive on how to measure the pattern, my dowel pins are 230mm spaced or so. Is that correct? I'm pretty sure mine should be off a Turbo anyhow.

I'm getting myself all confused now... even though I measured the bolt holes differently between the 6-bolt and 8-bolt flywheel I have laying around - would the pressure plate still fit from a 86-93 because it has the same P/P pattern?

Well, I must be too worried to pay any attention. Gary also said on his page, "84-90 transmissions will have to use a 84-90 Turbo II disc because of the difference in input shaft sizes" - so that settles it, I'ma go grab a good ol' T-II clutch. I just didn't want to end up buying something I can't use with my mismatched car.

Thanks for the help =)

If you have a 6 bolt crank, and want to use a 520 trans, you can use either a t-2 PP or the t-3 PP which has a slightly better clamping force. You will need to use the t-2 disc, as it has the smaller spline set-up like the 520, and NOT the t-3 disc which uses a large shaft 16 spline disc.
Later,
Cindy

the clutch that was on my 6-bolt flywheel went on just fine when i moved it to my new 8-bolt crank/flywheel. i think (not totally sure), its a stock-style clutch for an 85 laser (525 trans)
