In my 89 Spirit Turbo 2.5 automatic, I'm going to be rebuilding the 413 soon. I'd like to crank the line pressure up by 7 turns (almost as far as it will go) for harder shifts, but keep the WOT automatic shift point to no higher than 5000-5200 rpms. I'll manually shift it if I want to rev it higher.

Anyone got the governor weights figured out well enough to tell me which one needs lightened and by how much? As in what size drill to use and how deep to drill? Final weight of the weight? What about the spring in the governor and the other weight?

Can I just buy one made specifically for my needs?

Check out my prior posts I made in this section, it may help you towards your goal.... And I don't think you will find a drill bit that can cut the governor valve

Like Joe said you wont be able to drill out the stock turbo "large" govenor, I just modded my van tonight and used a carbide tipped grinder. I also installed a lighter TBI "small" weight and am shifting at 5400 RPM at 110 psi line pressure at WOT and 19 psi boost.
Changing just the small weight in my omni resulted in even lower shift points without lightening the large weight, just start with replacing the smaller weight for now. Get a pressure gauge, just spinning the line pressure screw out all the way can get pressure so high it will not shift 6k RPM even with TBI weight.

So you're saying that using the lighter TBI "small" weight will lower my shift points, right?

What about using the TBI spring? What about using the TBI "big" weight?

Swapping the smaller weight from your turbo car (probably hollow) for a solid or heavier (couple sizes out there) will lower your shift points to mid 5k. It uses no spring.

As for the big one I am looking forward to freshening up my Omni trans before completeing this years powerplant. The car literaly goes thru all three gears in a 1/4 block and I may have stuck something odd in place of big weight. Check out Carl's site, link at top of my page for PICs. People usualy use the big one for tuning, lighten or add TBI or swap springs. No trans will act the same and swapping govenors is an hour long job in car, I would start with small TBI weight.
