Well, after playing with my A413 governor, here is some shift info. First time, used the TBI weights-both solid, and the blue spring with 7 turns of line pressure. Also using the Sonnax governor kit with the turbo heavier spring. It would upshift at 6200 rpm or not at all unless I floated the gas. 2-3 upshift was nice, not too early, sorry, can't remember MPH. So last night, changed the setup, I used the TBI small weight-solid, turbo large weight-hollow, orange turbo spring and the Sonnax turbo spring. Now it shifts at 5000 rpm and the 2-3 upshift is low. If I get motivation, will take it out again tonight and change some stuff, I want it to shift around 5800 rpm! Wish they were easier to remove!

Some more governor 101

Here is some info. so you don't wast any time on the things I have. The little valve (primary) controls the shift points, so the heavier the valve the lower the speed the shift points will happen, across the board. The big valve (secondary) controls the higher (road speed) shift points. It does this by feeding some fluid pressure to the back side of the little valve at higher road speeds that counter act the centrifugal force (hold back) on the little valve. So making the big valve lighter or the spring for it heavier, will lower the WOT shift points.

Get the shift points down, then raise the line pressure to get your shift points where you want them. Drill a hole in the case inline with the line pressure screw and tap the hole for a small pipe plug. You now can adjust the shift points from outside of the trans with the line pressure.

Thanks JDIZZ!!!! More info is great! Already have case drilled and tapped with a plug.

Heres what I did and now shifts at 5800 rpm, woo frickin hoo. Went back in and changed the orange spring to the blue one. Changed the Sonnax spring with the lighter 4 cyl one. Now shifts at 5800 rpm at full throttle. Line pressure still at 7 turns. 2-3 is great. I made the tv cable one click higher as light throttle shifts were ugg. Now great. Hope this helps everyone and doesn't have to go what I went through.

When drag racing, I'd prefer to have the transmission shift itself around 5000, and I'll manually shift it if I want to rev higher in each gear.

I'm building a new 413, and if I put a TBI spring in place of the orange Turbo spring and don't change anything else with the weights, what will happen to the shift points?

I'd like to have it upshift on its own around 5000 rpm.

I found a transmission shop that has complete governor assemblies brand new for $25. I wonder what the shift points would be like with that unit and stock or cranked up line pressure.

Read JDIZZ's comments.

As for stock turbo governor, with the line pressure turned up, will not shift at WOT!

Okay. I went and bought a new governor for $25 at a tranny shop. It has the solid TBI weights and the plain steel colored (no paint) 0.046" spring in it.

I'm going to put it in, and hopefully that'll drop the WOT upshifts to below 5000 rpm. I may start out with 2 turns on the line pressure since I'm too lazy to drill a hole in the case for line pressure adjustments.

You are saying things about using the orange turbo spring with a Sonnax spring. What is this Sonnax spring? Where does it go? Are you running 2 springs at once?

This Sonnax governor kit is to solve the 2nd gear starts, it is #32204-30K. It comes with 2 springs. Reread my 2nd post and it explains what springs and weights I used.
Yes, I used 2 springs in the governor, one sonnax and one stocker!
The Sonnax spring goes on the outside of the smaller weight and has quite the effect on shift points but it does stop the dreaded 2nd gear start.

What do you torque the governer bolts to? I took mine out to clean it(tranny rebuild), went to go put it back on and couldn't find torque specs?!

Also, if using MRPVB can I just remove the governor, its counterweight, and the accumulator since I don't beleive any of that is used?

^That I couldn't tell you but I just tightened the bolts tight by hand.

OK....so I suppose that the 60in-lbs that I have them at now should be sufficient...

Now only if Cliff would e-mail me back about the removal of the other parts.....
