Daytona trans problem!

I've got a '90 Daytona C/S with an automatic. I have no idea what tranny it is. I bought it with a blown head gasket and I thought the tranny was fine. Of course it wasn't. For awhile it slipped like crazy in every gear and the shifter would not move down to 1st. I drove in second(short trips), but now I put it in first and it shifts 'almost' normal. Hell the headlights didn't pop up when I started to drive it but now they do! I think it's possesed. It still slips on take off.

I dropped the pan and added all new fluid but all my experience is in rear wheel drive cars. One tranny shop said it would be $1100+ to fix. I'd just swap trannys before doing that. What other trannys would fit?

I really like the car(so does the wife) and I will swap the tranny out when the new garage is built in the spring but I was wondering if there is anything I could do now.

That should be an A413 trans. The turbo 413s were stonger, or so I have read. I would just swap it out come spring.
