After putting a 523 in my minivan withcables and a shifter from a shadow, the shifter seems alittle stiff. Now, I did put the "booger" polyurethane shifter bushings in, just wondering if I need to lube the cables with something.

My neon will feel like that if it is 5 degrees outside. ~~Heath

Hey Heath, glad to hear that it is together...

check to see if there are any kinks to the cable. sharp bends will make it difficult. I dont remember if they are lubed from the factory. I know that I took mine off of a 100k mile shadow and then tossed them on without doing anying to them and they shift pretty smooth once I got the tight bend out of them. they are a little bit stiffer than the neons that ive driven. my booger bushings didnt make them any stiffer but made the feel more direct. dunno if that helps any... i suppose id have to hammer through the gears for ya to see if its ok

What you can do is pull the rubber boots back and smear the cable with lithium grease and keep working it in and out to more or less spread it thru the lenght of the cable. Made a huge difference on my Daytona. Downside is, it's much easier to do before you install the cables.

Mopar used (they still might) to sell speedometer cable lube. Check w/ your local dealer.
It' got a tip that should let you inject directly into the cable from the boot ends. Seems in the 80's they produced a lot of vehicles w/ jumpy speedometer needles. Worked like a charm.

if you wanna lube them heath and its not too difficult to get them back out, my uncle steve told me a little trick.... cut the corner out of a ziplock bag, push the cable sheath end through it and tape the bag so that it seals to the sheath. fill the bag with your lube of choice and wait till it drips out the other end. obviously grease wont flow down the cable but mobil 1 will lol. Good luck

cool dude! cant wait to start/finish mine! Mine needs some bodywork. I might be coming down sometime to browse the PA Junkyards for good van doors and stuff. NY is too rusty.

Im going 2.2 on mine though with a 3.77 trans and a MS&S with knock detection. hehe. might do the twin mitsu too
