Ok, so i did my first tranny fluid/filter change today, and im just wondering how much collection on the magnet is "normal".....mine kind of looked like a sea urchine.....all spiky, and im just wondering how much metal really should be on it. i guess im just hoping the transmission is in good shape since i really know nothing abotu trannys.....although the fluid smelled "clean"...niot smokey or burnt at all and it was still pinkish red in color so i know thats a good sign....also...should the pan bolt really be torqued to 168 in/lbs...the first two i did to that setting worked then the third started to strip so i backed off...the others i just did "tight"....tight enough so i dont think the will leak, but i dont think they all would have held up to 168 lbs of torque.....

that is A LOT of material. If I found that much metal on my magnet, I would be pulling the trans apart to find out why. realize clutch material is NOT magnetic... it is nothing more than paper. and bushings are brass so they too are not magnetic and wouldn't be accumulating on a magnet...

yeah, the metal was kind of collected in a sludge around the magnet...probably the size of a large marble....or a really nasty looking jaw breaker....what would the metal be from then, any guesses....i really dont know sh*t about transmissions...and im almost done putting this car back together so im not even considering tearing the whole thing out and taking it apart...
