Superior transmission parts has released a new shift kit for the 404 series of trannies. I got one this week and put it in the tranny I am rebuilding. Havent had a chance to try it yet, but it looks promising. It has a standard shift setup, a heavy duty shift setup, and also has the instructions and parts to make it fully manual. I thought someone might be interested in this info...

Call 1-800-835-1007 and ask for Roger. He can tell you about it. They are $38 plus shipping. Superior doesnt have any info on their site about it yet.

I should add that part of the heavy duty kit consists of removing the front band to make some changes to the intermediate servo and accumulator (course, you can do the accumulator part in the car.). So you need to have the tranny out to do some of the mods...

The instructions show how. Looks like once you go that way, the valve body is stuck that way.

Funny thing is, I talked to my tranny parts shop and they had ordered a bunch in. They told me that the other companies didn't make a kit as they deemed it wasn't necessary? WTF, are they stupid? of course our trannies need one, sheesh,

I unfortunately still have my Lebaron Convertible with an auto tranny.... it shifts fine now, but I would like an alternative to a full manual valve body or a cheaper alternative..... and I still have it and my 1985 OMNI GLH that has a crappy manual tranny in it, that I either plan to sell the whole car, or go automatic with it when it breaks.....

before, I tried to sell the whole running, driving car for $500 and no one wanted it.... I have been driving it daily ever since..... so I may just keep it.... no turbo so it is a little simpler and slower.....

but I don't need 3 cars.... so I dunno, just have to work it out I guess...

I would like to come up with a MP or Turbo Motion seperator plate that they used in their kits to make to copy... Cindy at FWD Perf has a CNC machine that she can make them with, but she didnt know what the cost would be. I would bet a lot of people would buy them if someone would just make them. As for the shift kits being available, I have heard from a few tranny shops that these trannies are becoming more and more sought after for these older cars and they are starting to make new parts and pieces for them again... Kinda like the death of the powerglide, only to come back 15-20 years later in the drag racing world.

I've got mine up and running now, and it does shift pretty firmly in all gears now. Apparently, one of the fixes in this shift kit keeps the front band servo pin from coming out as far, and this takes the accumulator out of the picture so you dont have to block and passages in the tranny housing this way.

Nice, I went to get mine but they just showed up today. I am buying another valve body so I have a true back to back test on this kit,
