I just scored a '90 A523 manual trans (3.85 final drive) including shifter and cables for my '88 Daytona TII Shelby Z. The trans came out of a donor car(Daytona) w/ 101k on the odometer. Trans shifted smoothly and all gears engaged positively. Fluid level was low. And now that it is removed I noticed some in and out endplay on the input shaft. Also some up/down-side/side play on the drivers side diff output w/ axle shaft inserted. Axle in pass side diff extension housing was tight-no play. Is this normal/acceptable?
I thought about just bolting it in-filling w/ 5W-30 and praying that everything would be cool......But I want to increase my odds of success. What would anyone suggest I do to this tranny -if anything- before I install it in my car? I would value any opinion as I would HATE to have to pull it out again. Thanx to all in advance.

Its normal to have a little play on the input shaft. (between .001" and .010" endplay) Their should be NO movement on the diff. the easiest way to tell is reach your fingers in the drivers side part of axle opening and try moving the diff in/out and up/down. Putting the axle in and doing that wont tell you nothing because they all have a little movement when inserted in the diff, which is normal.
