My daytona has 3 studs on top, I don't think the patterns are close.

The reason I ask those questions is that yes I do have tercel coilovers and I just bought new bearing plates for my SC. I have alot of excess strut that doesn't get used since I drop it. To keep tension on the springs I need a 2 inch spacer and it appears that the strut is 1 3/4 shorter. Plus I need new struts and I get them from the place I work pretty cheap. I got the tops held on and when I jack the car up I can get the spring to come off the botton perch a good 3 inches. The ride ok and haven't had problems with the springs coming lose or anything.

You can get "take up" springs depnding on what diameter your coilovers are. They should have come with your kit as a matter of fact.

I think the neon strut would probably solve alot of that problem, it would get rid of that excessive drop and need for the spacer. The neon strut is the same diameter as the L-body, so if they fit on the L-body they should fit on the Neon. I also need to do some research, but you would think that with the neon being a heavier car, they would provide a firmer ride on the L-body, so maybe stock neon struts with the right spring rate spring applied with the coil overs would give an nice firm bounce free suspension for pretty cheap. I know people have complained about the spring in the tercel kit being a little too high of a spring rate and making the ride bouncy, so hopefully the firmer neon strut will solve that.

Ok, so I took apart the l-body strut tonight to see if it would bolt onto the neon unit. It looks like it would bolt up, but only if you use the top spring perch from the l-body. Which wouldn't be a big deal as long as you were using coil-overs. But if you just want to use the stock set-up, you'd have to try to squeeze the longer l-body springs in there which probably isn't the best idea. Plus the bearing that the neon strut uses for turning on the hat looks like a much better deal then the l-body. I'd take pictures buy my wife took the camera to take pictures of her friends new-born baby or some other worthless crap

It really is amazing that they are that the spring hats are that close when you knock out a stud. Are they more durable than the lbody hats?
lbody hats can also be swapped onto the neon struts for that matter. I actually have them on a set of daytona coilover struts with some washers ala Rob Walsh. This gives you the correct camber adjustments with the daytona 11" brakes.
Using a neon hub would probably given even more braking options!
Good work,
Rich

Do you know if the neon knuckle will fit the l-body? That would definitally be a neat setup. It is pretty amazing how close they are, Even the mounts for the brake line bracket is exactly the same.

Okay,
So the L-Body front has been apparently taken care of, what are you gonna do for the rear??? The Neon uses an IRS (IIRC), so its rearend won't work, any ideas??

Some people are just never happy, lol I haven't gotten that far yet, although I think there are alot of options out there. From what I remember a honda CRX has a similar setup, which has an assload of aftermarket parts (Yes I'm suggesting putting honda parts on a TD). I'll just have to go take some measurements and see what I can find.

So just the springs then, or the whole spring/shock assembly? It would be nice if we could make the whole assebly work, then we could pick from a huge variety of aftermarkets stuff.

altered, you solved my problem!!!!
For several months I've been meaning to goto a parts house and pull ALL their struts and start comparing, but havn't had time. I wanted to find a shorter strut, for a heavier car (higher damping) that would sit at the right height when installed on a lowered L body and not bounce wildly with coilovers...
I've gotta replace my struts, and I bet that the parts houses here STOCK the neon crap (but not the shelby stuff, I checked, grrrrr). Yup, just checked, $56ea for new struts!
I gotta double check my fundage and I might just go buy a set soon and give 'em a try!
I just wonder if the uppers on my stock struts will bolt up to the tops of the neon struts (only concern). What is the diameter of the plunger shaft on the neon compared to a stock L body strut? spring retaining nut size? Would be nice to just put neon struts in... heck, there *might* be one still in the yards nearby...
