Having trouble ordering the rear E-brake cables for an 87 CSX (w/ rear discs), are they the same as for the 89 Dodge Shadow with rear disc brakes? Or any other veh? Is the entire 89 shadow rear disc brake setup the same as the 87 CSX???

Thanks,

Chris

Your 87 rear disc are not the same as 89 rear disc. 87 had caliper that had a skerw wedge for the ebrake and in 89 the rear disc got a little drum for an ebrake. The 87 brakes are expensive to replace since the cailper are complexed. If you want to replace the rear brake I would find an 89 setup and ditch the 87. That if there are similair to a daytona's discs.

Actually this 87 CSX does have the drum setup for the Ebrake (unlike the 87 shelbyz that had the caliper wedge setup). So it sounds like it may be the same as the 89? Anyone confirm? Thanks.

I just replaced the rear brake cables on one of my cars. The part number on the invoice is BC93530.

The 87 CSX has the drum type e-brake. In fact the e-brake shoes say SHELBY right on them. I believe they are from the same year Daytona Shelby Z. The e-brake shoes are no longer available and the drums are hard to get turned since they are so small. I had a problem with them binding when the e-brake was disengaged. This was due to hot spots on the shoes and drums. I couldn't get new shoes or get the drums turned. I solved the problem by switching the drums to the opposite side but not the shoes. With the hot spot surfaces not matching it eliminated the binding problem.

Hi, just talked to my parts guy. The rear e-brakes for the 87 CSX are still available. They are lots of them across the country, part #5073647AB. The place where the adjuster goes is thicker on the new ones. I used a dremel tool and ground them down until the adjuster fit. I beleive they superseded to the neon rear e-brakes. I paid like $75 for mine.

The cables, and the shoes are availible at most parts stores. Just get cables for an 89 Daytona, Shadow or whatever body style you have and shoes for a 91 Daytona, Im not sure why the shoes dont cross reference back to 89, but they are the same. The brake cables were $17 a side, and the shoes were $22 for a set.

Next question is, what is the difference between the 87/88/89 CSX rear rotors and the 89 shadow rear rotors? They show different PN for the shelby rotors used on CSX/Lancer versus all other dodge rear rotors. Are they interchangeable?

Thanks again.

I had an '89 Shadow ES with factory rear discs. The rear disc setup was identical to the stock rear disc setup on my Shelby Lancer (10" solid disc with internal drum ebrake). The only difference I could find was the caliper bolts were a different size. The Lancer used a larger bolt that was used as a slider, and the Shadow used regular bolts with sleeves.
