not quite as easy as it looks if you want to retain the integrety of the metal for strength, if it was as easy as a hammer and some tubing im sure more would do them.

OK, but looking at the picture, it sure looks uneven and beat down to make it flat.

That was the first bar made. The one that is in his car looks a LOT better. I can tell you from personal experience that just a hammer is NOT going to crush that pipe. If you use something that thin or maleable, it is not going to do the job that we are intending here.

I know they're referred to as shock tower bars but shouldn't it be over the springs instead of the shocks?

Thats why they call it a shock tower/strut tower brace. They go over the shock/strut. If they go over the spring, it would be a spring brace.

well usually cause they're bolted onto the front shock/spring towers. But for the rear the shocks are seperate and the shocks aren't the main transmitters of force into the body.

this is what I did, removed the rusty peice that was behind the trunk and in front of the gas tank. Put a 2x2 square peice in place. You need to measure for teh stud that sticks down for the panhard bar, also take into consideration the exhaust(my 3" was tight there) and also the gas tank filler neck is tight.

I also deleted the spare tire well.

Custom rear frame brace

heres more pics

while that helps you're not creating a triangulated square box above the springs to stop twisting motion. Plus I was thinking something more bolt in without having to loose the spare tire well.

yeah like I said just what I did, mostly because I removed all the rust from the car and that stock peice was rusty!.

I will be adding a bar at the top of the shocks also, was thinking about triangulting it down to that square brace. I dont think I'm that woried about it, so far it handles great, still have yet to do the clover leaf test

I remember you. Yeah, the tan bar is in my car. I LOVE it! It made a nice difference in the car...Mike can even tell you about the firswt ride in the car after it was installed...it was, ahem...exciting! LOL

I like the custom weld-in peice, however, that's more work and modification than I'm willing to do to this car, besides, mine's a street car firs and foremost. I'll be doing some crazy sh*t to my "race" car! LOL

We decided it would be a good idea to see how the bar affected the handling of the car. Down the road from Chuck's house is a sreet that has a hairpin 90 to the left, We decided this would be a great place to check it as I'd goine around that corner at a goof clip with the car beofre wuthout the bar, By the time this all was happening it was dark out, and there are NO lights at this particular place. I;d let all the traffic pass me and I went for it! I hit the corner going probably about 40...I really don't know because I was paying more attention to what the car was doing, At any rate, it was probably a bit quicker than I should have. I set the chassis and tuned the wheel, but I couldn't see the end of the corner, so I had no idea when to stop turning. Well, the car got a little out of shape and the right rear tire decided it would be a great idea to go offroading. When that happened I was finally able to see the end onf the corner..I corrected the car and slowed it down! Keep in mind this all happened in about 3-4 senconds! It sure seemed longer than that though! At that point Mike really didn't need a seatbelt because his pucker factor was through the roof! U have to admit that for a split second I had not so good thoughts...but it all turned out OK!
